Wild this happened despite reasonable childhood independence is on the books.

Texas mother lost her home and job and was threatened with jail after asking eight-year-old son to walk home alone
Heather Wallace thought she was calming her son during a tantrum. Before she knew it she was being charged with endangering a child.

"As they stood on her porch, the officers told Wallace that her son could have been kidnapped and sex trafficked. "'You don't see much sex trafficking where you are, but where I patrol in downtown Waco, we do,'" said one of the cops, according to Wallace.

This statement struck her as odd.

"They were basically admitting that this is a safe neighborhood," she says.

The officer then asked Wallace whether she would let her son walk home again, now that she knew about the sex trafficking.

"I still didn't know it was illegal and I said, 'I don't know,'" says Wallace. "That's when the cop replied, 'Okay, I'm going to have to arrest you.'"

Up to 20 years for that? That is so ridiculous and honestly embarrassing

A mandatory 2 years in jail if guilty over something that carried a measly $300 bail?

    what a joke

    Those Japanese folks are monsters…

But seriously… it’s crazy how safe Japan is and how kids are far more independent.

Yeah... When I was 6 I had afternoon Kindergarten, so I was home by myself while my parents were at work and my siblings were already at school. I walked much more than 1/2 mile to and from school every day by myself. I'd eventually meet up with a friend who was doing the same thing.

That was the first thing I thought of when I saw the headline.

Latchkey kid here. At 7 I was walking more than a mile to and from school. And of course I tell the young uns it was in the snow and uphill both ways in HOUSTON!

The correct answer would've been to give the boy a gun with breath smelling like scotch to brave the Texas frontier.

    Bonus points for CHL.

The officer doesn't understand how sex trafficking works.

The kid is much safer today walking home than I was when I walked home in 1st grade back in 1979.

Kidnapping by a stranger in the U.S. is extremely rare. I believe the numbers for 2019 were 119 children. Thats across all 50 states for a year, so like 2 per state per year.

I remember when I use to walk home from school when I was 6-7. It's pathetic that a prosecutor and a judge went ahead with this sort of case. Come on man, there are actual criminals to go after.

When I was a kid we'd go everywhere on our owns - walk miles to the store or ride our bikes without any parent supervision - and no one thought that was odd or unusual.

    Now it's a crime.

anime and manga are 2 different things

put One Piece, Dragon Ball, Demon Slayer, JJK, etc in theaters, and it would be a miracle if it made 50 mil in America

manga might be doing slightly better than comics in America, but neither manga nor anime come close to the MCU
