They lose Verlander and fail to sign an impact bat? Then Crane better fire his own ass. There are plenty of bats and it isn’t hard to improve over the production they got last year from LF, 1st base and catcher.
Brantley and yuli would be throw ins for depth and post season. Yordan can’t play every single game in left. And Christian Walker is 2nd youngest of anyone mentioned in FA. And also better (imo) but if youth is important then Bell is your choice. That’s fine, but I think Walker is muuuuuch better. I also like conforto instead of brantley… vasquez I think should be the everyday over maldy, he can catch our pitchers fine, just as good defensively and much better offensively . He should be cheaper than all the other C’s and I think fits our team best. Yuli and the youngins on the bench. Kick dubon off the team and bring up Leon and I like it.
Abreu 2 year 36 million Conforto 2 years 34 million (opt out after year one since he is a Boras guy) Contreras 4 years 72 million Get your popcorn out.... Altuve 2B Pena SS Alvarez DH Bregman 3B Tucker RF Abreu 1B Conforto LF Contreras C McCormick/Meyers/who cares this lineup will destroy
My perfect offseason would be. Sign Josh Bell to play 1B. Sign Mitch Haniger to be the LF/DH And Sign W. Contreras Trade J. Meyers and P.Maton to the Cubs for Pete Crow-Armstrong Trade J. Urquidy or Garcia plus Forrest Whitley and J. James to the Orioles for C. Mullens and John Means. Mullens would be the CF/LF/RF guy. Depending on what's on tap. Sign A. Chafin for the pen. Lineup 1. Altuve 2B 2. Pena SS 3. Bregman 3B 4. Alveraz DH 5. Bell 1B 6. Tucker RF 7. Haniger LF 8. Mullens CF 9. Contreras C Bench Hensley 1B/2B/3B/SS/DH Maldy C/DH McCormick CF/RF/LF/DH Y.Diaz C/1B Rotation: McCullers Valdez Javier Garcia or Urquidy Brown Pen Montero Abreu Means Chaffin Martinez Pressley Stanek Neris
Urquidy will enter his Arb 1 year and is expected to make about the same as Walker would be, per Spotrac estimates. Urquidy isn't terrible, but he's about Odorizzi-level in terms of production. And Verlander had an all-time season, he is a leader in the locker room and on the field, and a future HOF. You don't let first ballot HOF'ers go when you have them. I think he still has at least 2 or 3 great (not sub-2 ERA, but still well above average) seasons in him.
Explain to me why you believe between the Dodgers, Yankees, Astros, Giants, and who knows they will all stop at 2 years knowing another team could go 3? I was suggesting 3 years 100 with the 3rd year guaranteed if certain things happen. Basically similar to what he got coming of TJ but with a year added... You think the Yankees wouldn't do 3 years 100 if it means taking him from Houston? All things equal he's not leaving... the other teams have to offer more... that means years most likely...
Look- I’m not saying JV sucks or any thing but if the deal is bring him back for 3/130, which I believe he will get or sign Contreras, Abreu and Conforto, for example, I will drive him to the airport myself.
If we lose JV I’d hope we spend wiser than 80 mil on a catcher and a guy no one wanted too sign in 2022.
https://www.mlb.com/news/astros-owner-jim-crane-plans-long-gm-search Confirmed that JV is looking for 3 years, 130M. And Yuli should take over Aledmys spot on the roster.
"He’s looking at the comp, which I think there’s only one or two." I wonder who the one or two other teams are?
I cant be mad at JV for always being greedy and wanting the most but gawdam does it make me upset that all the money hes made in his career, just isnt enough to be set on a great team and roster, poised to make another deep run.
