A decent comp is Josh Donaldson. At age 34 he got 4 years 92. The difference is Donaldson was a strikeout machine and isn't a contact hitter. He has hit .250 or better once in 5 seasons.

It's harder to find guys who can hit .300 with a good ob% and not strike out a ton. Basically Abreu would be like getting Yuli of 3 years ago back...

We were lucky with the deal Yuli signed for.

I guess we'll find out... this is a market talking about 3 years for Verlander...

This is my nightmare scenario. mold guy gonna make too much and fall apart- lose cheap labor at SP- the most valuable commodity in MLB, when you could have had someone better for just money, bring back a guy too old, bring back a guy too old and too broken. Yikes

Breaking News: The Astros have decided to hire a new GM, Meet Geoffrey Luenaow . A rookie GM from Mexican descent. Crane is looking forward to what this completely NEW GM brings to the table.

Correct it's our 2 center fielders, 2 of only about 56 MLB players ever to bat right-handed and throw lefty.

    Crazy.

And think of the goodwill we can build back up in the public eye with a minority hire as GM.

    Great work, Crane!

Oh yeah, he would also be very good with scouting and bringing diversity to The Astros. First we lose Luhnow and now we get a chance to replace him with a new GM that shows great potential.

Hinch has worked both in the FO and in the dugout. Hinch also has a track record with Crane … but … that track record includes a fireable offense.

Got to believe that there have to be better candidates out there.

It’s not about interest, it’s about money and contract length. If he signs elsewhere he will say all the right things there but the hold up now is money.

Crane isn’t scared to go another way, nor is Verlander. Last year he was going to sign with the Jays over a relatively small amount of money. He signed with the Astros after Crane called him and made a very similar offer.

    Verlander is about Verlander.

WHO is talking about 3 years for Verlander? GMs? Unlikely. Sheer speculation at this point.

It would be disappointing to lose Verlander and strike out on the FA bats.

I'm not so much concerned with losing Verlander, as I think our rotation is quite strong without him, but the double effect of losing him + not adding anything significant would be demoralizing and also I think we really need a couple of impact bats. Rizzos already gone... I guess we shall see.

I think Manfred forced Crane to fire Luhnow/Hinch.

Yankees fans are on twitter acting like resigning Rizzo was the equivalent of trading for Othani. We really have damaged those poor bastards. Lol

If they lose out on Verlander AND impact bats, that would be disappointing for sure, but I also think they could lose JV and use that leftover money to add two impact bats. Imagine adding a Nimmo and an Abreu to the lineup for less than it would cost for Verlander, for example.

They think it's a win and they beat the Astros when they re-signed Rizzo. Bunch of suckers doesn't seem to realize Rizzo's agent laughing.
