I think the only way Vasquez is signed is if Maldy chooses to retire. Not out of the question.but not likely either.

If he was promised 50 percent playing time, I think he would sign. Maldy only has one more season under contract.

How about a trade for the A’s Sean Murphy in exchange for Urquidy and Lee ? He has 3 years of control left, big upgrade at catcher , keeps payroll flexibility and A’s receive quality pitcher in Urquidy with 3 years control plus upside in potential starting catcher with Lee.

I think this is a fair deal .

Imagine if Houston resigns Verlander and doesn’t make any trades. Their pitching staff would be stacked 13 deep, with 7 starters (JV, Framber, Javier, McCullers, Garcia, Brown, and Urquidy) and 6 high leverage relievers (Pressly, Montero, Neris, Abreu, Stanek, and Maton). I could see them going with a 6 man rotation and using Brown as a multi-inning relief weapon.

I would like that. I hate to give away arm depth-we had an incredibly lucky season, injury-wise. That's not likely to happen again.

I’m curious if they would prefer it that way. If we sign a high caliber 1B and bring back Yuli and Brantley to DH/backup, I’m not sure it would sense to trade Urquidy away for a catcher upgrade. If the Astros value Maldys game management in spite of his declining age and defensive skills, and think highly of Lee/Diaz as 2024 ready, Urquidy may be best served as the 26th man.

I would use Brown as SP4 though.

Honestly you could have him start 50 percent and dh another 30 percent or so depending on the type of season he is having. I like him bc he got hits in the playoffs which is what you want.

I doubt Oakland wants the main piece coming back for Murphy to only have 3 years of control.

I think Ian Happ from the Cubs is a sneaky move

I'm wondering if we offer Urquidy and Maton to the Orioles we could get Mullens to play LF?

I think we need that base stealer guy we can play all OF spots.

I think him as a base stealer and on a better team maybe he could do so much more as a player.

The team has already said that Yordan will be the everyday left fielder.

They get Lee in the deal with a lot more control / could throw in another prospect but it solves a few issues namely extra bat + good defensive catcher without overpaying for Contreras who will want to get paid

Dumb on both ends. Why would that be something he needed to bet his career on?

GMs make mistakes all the time. In the end, it ended up not mattering much.

Because Crane wanted Starling Marte and Click didn't want to spend money on him in part because they had Meyers.

I would like getting Murphy, BUT

    1. They will want a top prospect as the main piece, not a guy with 3 years control. If you want to move Leon and lee or something along those lines, you might get their attention

    2. If Maldanado is coming back, and there is no reason to think he isn't, it would be dumb to trade legit starting pitching for a backup. Especially because Murphy is a good hitter for a CATCHER, but he wouldn't be a good hitter for a DH or whatever
