Changing our vanilla unis is great, as long as they do it right, but don't get too excited that it will be Oiler colors or logos. It will not, until the family sells the Titans.
I hope we lean into red as the dominant color. I also hope we don't choose green and yellow to honor San Diego
Titans made the Roughnecks modify their logo so Im pretty much done with that visual as much as it tugs at my heartstrings.
Ole miss is navy and red but they are busting out the light blue today. They are so clean. Texans, take note.
I would lean into the red helmet, do away with deep steel blue and change it to a Columbia -esque blue. Titans can't do anything about that. Hell, call it West Columbia Blue. Main jersey color would be the blue with red accents. Wouldn't even mind going silver over white. Helmet would be red.
Texans are not changing colors. Columbia Blue doesn't sell well. Do you notice the Titans have been incorporating more dark blue in their unis? There is a reason for that.
That's just because Tennessee sucks and nobody cares about them. Same way I'd bet our merch sales have dropped off the last few years, despite not having the colors to blame it on.
Between the team bottoming out again, season ticket renewals at their all-time low, local TV and radio ratings at an all time low, and merchandise revenue also at an all-time low… the ownership group is going to get a tad desperate when it comes to these sorts of decisions.
I guess you are not old enough to remember that many Houston fans wanted the Oilers to get rid of the Columbia Blue. It didn't sell back then outside of Houston.
It took one of the worst owners in all of pro sports, years of playoff disappointments, two threatened moves, one major property tax hike to renovate a stadium that would be obsolete in less than a decade, countless scandals (some involving death), and just generally one of the most dysfunctional franchises in all of sports history for Houston to eventually become apathetic towards them leaving…. And somehow the Texans have managed to supersede that apathy in less than half the time, just by being completely incompetent in/of itself. Its so bad that fans are actually now nostalgic for the previously mentioned franchise. That’s how bad things are right now. For a city that was desperate and willing to have supported anything based on how the previous franchise was… now it seems that even this level of incompetence is beyond being able to support.
Come on man there has to be a way to compromise. They can keep the colors and logo and history, but can we at least buy out the rights to the name?
