One thing I read that suggested a reason (ignoring the anti-democracy stuff) is that Dems ran on abortion but actually provided a solution. GOP ran on inflation and crime but just complained about it.

Maybe, I didn't realize abortion would sway so many votes. Typically the party out of the presidency makes a killing, with inflation being high you'd have think it would have been a historic killing.

Yes that was conventional wisdom and two weeks before the election it looked like conventional wisdom was going to hold.

I think a lot of people underestimated how powerful this issue was to women and young voters. In hindsight Kansas should’ve told people how important this issue was.

Inflation is so bad. But nothing is more important than actually passing anti-LGBT and anti-CRT legislations.

(Fetterman result is something Dem needs to look at - won over some Trump voters).

I guess it's just menopause time for the modern GOP. Much like real menopause, I think the transition will last 7-14 years with lots of moods and hot flashes.

    7-14 years

Optics matter. You wouldn't think twice if you saw Fetterman at a PA blue-collar bar. The Dems need to take a serious lesson from that. Slick-daddy pretty boys like Newsom, especially if the economy is struggling and we're in a recession in 2024, will not win over the independent/purple voters. Roll out the hard working blue collar Dems.

I said this back in the spring, but the Dems need to be recruiting Fettermans all over the country - authentic progressives who know how to talk about progressive issues to conservatives without demonizing them or talking down to them. If not for the stroke, this would have been a 10+ point Fetterman win easily. These types of candidates are how you win an enduring majority.

Whoever is on the republican strategic team needs to get fired.

Trump could have easily won the 2nd term, when he was handed his 9/11 in the form of Covid. Literally was given the ball at the 2 yard line, all he had to do was lead by example and not make stuff political. Didn't even have to do much, yet he somehow fumbled it and started a new wave of antivax + anti mask + countless of lives lost. pretty sure he could have easily won if he handled it like any normal leader would.

This midterm was the same thing, republicans probably could have won majority in both senate and house if the supreme court conservatives didn't get sooooo excited in getting rid of roe v wade. Could have just waited until the election cycle was done.

Abortion was such a voting factor. If the election was just about inflation, Biden popularity and immigration issues, pretty sure republicans could have won. Future doesn't bode well for republicans that this was such a favorable political situation + gerry mandering and they still can't win.

Republican civil war is coming between MAGAs vs what ever u call Desantis, grab da popcorn

Yep... I've been telling folks that for 2 years. Trump would have handily won had he showed empathy and leadership during COVID.

Also, it probably would have been a red tsunami, had he simply conceded and acknowledged the election was fair after the last of his lawsuits was denied.

And, he would be in a much better position to win in 2024.

But, he's a ****ing narcissistic idiot.

And if my aunt had a **** she'd be much uncle? I think that's the saying?

I honestly don't think he is capable of that. About as likely as my aunt to spontaneously waking up one morning as my uncle.

And if a speech writer handed him a speech that emphasized those points he'd probably reject it thinking it made him look weak.

Of course he is not capable of that. That's why I wrote

I heard several - and I mean a lot - of coworkers, peers, customers, friends, acquaintances, that can’t stand Beto suggest they’d lean towards him strictly due to the Roe vs Wade decision. That’s saying a lot.

The GOP kind of did what Beto did. They ranted and raved about the current administration, inflation, crime, (Beto had different topics) but didn't put out any ads about what they would actually do. Now they may have talked about it in debates, but they didn't in ads.

it wasn’t just that the Supreme Court banned abortion, Republicans then passed extreme abortion bans like the one in Louisiana and started going on and on about how abortion should be banned at fertilization…then they said contraception and gay marriage was next

they also said abortion should be left to the states, then Lady G goes and introduces a federal abortion ban

candidates had to scrub the abortion views they were proudly proclaiming post-Dobbs from their campaign websites once it became clear how deeply unpopular it was and how damaging these views were to their chances, but it was too late

Yeah they overreached for sure. And I think people are tiring of Trumpism as well.

GOP needs to tack back to the center and drop the election denialism as well. The tinfoil hat stuff is scarier than the defund the police crowd.
