The stat also doesn't tell you what the opposing team's lineup looked like during those minutes. As with all stats, it's just a piece of the puzzle. It's a good starting point, but there are other pieces you have to use to complete the picture.

 

I thought Garuba had some great minutes. Dude is starting to look like he might actually deserve some minutes believe it or not. Part of his play last night is he is a perfect length & bowling ball matchup to Zion but you really see him brining more energy and effort overall in games now. He is far less lethargic than the way he looked last season and at the start of this one. He’s still a little clumsy/doesn’t catch the ball well but he mucks offensive plays up on defense and is still a surprisingly decent passer for a guy with such limited skills.

 

I’ve been an EGo fan since his Pelican days but I gotta say - he really has declined noticeably this year. He’s still a crafty scorer but his defensive capabilities are a net negative now. I notice we are trying to match him up against bigger players and now and they are ALL able to take him off the dribble for a score now. A shame we don’t have secondary defense at the rim…

I was waiting all morning to hear what Kyle the utterly defeated Rockets fan, avid Pokemon catcher & cat enthusiast had to say about the game.

 

Oh forgot to mention, green has been proving the haters wrong. Man is improving on defense. I don't think it was as noticeable for the other games, but this one man led the squad for that great comeback just for Silas + KPJ to squander it

 

Alvarado is basically gonna be the next Pat Bev. hated on by every other team's fanbases.

Since we're all so young, this team has 0 veteran enforcers. Usually you'd have a guy who would lay Jose flat out with a hard foul if he did a cheap move like that would make him think twice next time and the star player would pay the fine behind closed doors.

Someone like GG wouldn't let him get away scott free.

The rating tells you how well or bad that five did, but not why. It might be due to a weak opposing unit. But many of this type of particular out of control reasons will be eliminated as sample size grows bigger. For Garuba-kmj-tari, the obvious reason is their husle defense, sharing the ball well and not playing hero ball. Of course they will mostly face weaker units, but it is not like our first unit will blow away second units easily so this is quite good.

I particularly liked the Garuba-Tari-KMJ-Green-Nix line up. Another option to try would be replacing Garuba with Sengun and see how it goes. Or even Nix with Sengun.

 

This was Jalen Green's best performance of the season. It's very welcome to see him getting out of the bad slump that he was in.

 

I'm confused as to why exactly you'd be laying Jose flat out with a hard foul?

What exactly was the cheap move you're referring to? He literally was dribbling the ball out to close the game and was excessively fouled by a butt-hurt KPJ.

I just had to re-watch it again after your comment in case I missed something. But KPJ pointing directly at Jose and talking trash as if Jose banged his partner is absolutely hilarious, dude if you're going to be so emotionally fragile about someone stealing the ball off you and making you look like a chump, common sense (which I know KPJ has none of) would say gee I don't know, maybe take better care of the ball. But nah, this is Kevin Porter Jr we're talking about, nothing is his fault it's always someone else's.
