If only there were some analytical measures out there to try and determine if this season was a fluke or not???

That could be true but the Astros pitching staff has a proven track record of turning around pitchers that other teams didn't want like Neris, Pressley, Stanek, Montero are all good examples of this.

Was thinking the same thing about Graveman. They obviously feel confident that the changes they've made with Montero. After next yr they lose Neris and Stanek. They now have Pressly, Abreu and Montero locked up for the next three yrs.

Stick around. That you are a fan matters, when you decided you wanted to be someplace you could talk about it does not.

    lol.. I'm all for it.

But there are some that just come in here and take over threads and start slinging insults like they've been here for some time... not really a cool vibe. Some were banned for bad behavior and i'm always curious when a new poster comes on strong that they may be one of these past offenders.

    Anyways, welcome to the board!

As any good woman would tell you it's not about how long you been doing it it's about if you are doing it right or not.

Lots of us are from Houston but no longer live there. Some of us have never lived there but still like the Astros or Rockets. All are welcome.

Appreciate it. Lurked long enough to see many of those posters you are talking about. I recognize you as one of the OG’s here in the Astro forum

    Duly noted.

For the record we didn't turn Neris around. He pitched okay and about his average of the last few years. Pressly was already established but I will say he took it up a notch from his time in Minnesota. Stanek is a yes.

No... I said the bots were making the decisions for the Astros front office (in response to your question).

I won't apologize for those who don't get the joke.

whatever we might think about the Astros, one thing they have proven time and again … we are freaking pitcher whisperers. The Astros are the envy of the league when it comes to pitching. Just try to count the number of pitchers we’ve developed, elevated, turned elite, or just identified as undervalued/misused. Just off the top of my head

Keuchel - from nothing to Cy Young (and back to nothing)
    Cole
JV - let’s not forget he was floundering in Det
Morton - off the injury scrap heap

Pressly, Graveman, Montero - grand theft
Maton - more petty theft misdemeanor but he produced a massive postseason run
    Abreu - development

And the Latino army of Framber, Javier, Garcia and Urquidi.

The Astros track record on pitching is breathtaking. Talent identification, maximization, development, you name it. The platinum standard in MLB.

Galveston will always be associated with H-town. I mean, back in junior high and high school we (PISD) had to play games against Galveston Ball, so I’d say we’re all lumped together

Another thing to keep in mind. With the depth of the pen they were able to space guys out over the regular season which helped keep their pen fresh and not worn down for the postseason. They want to keep that depth and thus why they were willing to pay Montero (even if it's a little more than they would like).

They also can close games with Montero in the regular season and also feel comfortable putting Abreu in this role as well given how he performed in high leverage situations in the playoffs.

Pressly, Abreu, Montero, Neris is very deep plus Stanek. I also think that if they bring back JV that Brown will more than likely spend a lot of time in the pen with occasional starts (even with a six man rotation at times).

I agree. Plus I was born/raised in Houston, and entire family still there. It was a very confusing insult to say the least.

“Claim Houston but from Katy…. Claim Houston but from Sugar Land”!
