Half of Hensley's starts are at SS. For a short term replacement, he's enough. But we would probably have to call up someone from the minors if it is long term. Bregman can slide over to SS if needed. If we are giving up on Y Diaz as a C, then our backup C is Lee. That leaves 3 bench players. I don't see both Hensley and Dubon on the bench. Hensley has much greater upside than Dubon. I don't know if there is a reset on Dubon's option issue with the new season or if it's a career limit. So Hensley is the second Bench player as Utility IF. One of Meyers or McCormick or Leon as Bench Utility OF. I want Yuli and Brantley, if they are healthy, but Brantley if we must choose. He would slide in at DH/LF like last year but receive more time at DH. I think our best chance at a FA is Abreu or Rizzo to 1B. This leave the 4th Bench spot for a hitter first role and it's a fit for Y Diaz. Is one new player enough to improve the team? Or would Brantley's return be like 2 players? If Brantley isn't healthy, do we shift away from 1B and bring back Yuli? And with all these tough decisions we have lost 4 front office personnel. It will be a tough few months. The good news is if we limit the position roster to one addition, it leaves more flexibility at the trade deadline while getting a look at some youngsters (Hensley/Y Diaz/Leon/Lee) to see who might be ready to stick around.
That has to be his worst ranking. ERA/ERA+/WHIP have to be better. Heck, they didn't even have 125 qualifiers last year.
Luhnow was so good the league decided to punish us by taking him away from us. I'd be more excited for Luhnow coming back than for The Astros to announce they just signed Aaron Judge...
When I can I will post more on it. Some stuff is filtering out of the organization now. Not sure either side is all that great
No. Like someone mentioned on Astros twitter, Luhnow sued the Astros not too long ago. He's out of the picture. Crane and the Astros just "legitimized" the first title too and probably trying to get as far away from any reminder of the scandal as much as possible.
So this is what I think opening day will look like. Lineup and pitching. Altuve Pena Alvarez Bregman Tucker Abreu Brantley McCormick Maldonado Verlander Valdez Javier Mccullers Garcia Brown Urquidy Maton Martinez Neris Stanek Abreu Pressly Back to back and that's that.
Okay, pick whatever metric you want: ERA : he was 81st, ERA- : 85th, SIERA : 97th. WHIP is such a bad stat that fangraphs does not even track it. You are correct, using fangraphs, there were only 45 qualified pitchers, and by WAR, Urquidy was 44th. By FIP, he was 43rd. To get to the 150 pitchers that he cited, the cutoff had to be set at 90 IP. The point being that no matter how you look at it, Urquidy is a solid, even above average (depending on metric used) back of the rotation starter, but there is no way that he is a number 2 starter.
We have a right to be concerned. There was no reason not to trust Jerry Jones in 1994, and look at the Cowboys ever since.
I desperately want Lunhow back...simply to rustle the baseball worlds Jimmies...imagine all the glorious, delicious, hate...
definitely like it. would love it if yuli could be moved around the diamond (and i really don't see why he can't in the regular season...let's have some fun). platoon the 2 of them (and abreu on brantley's bench days) at DH, and let yuli take abreu, bregman, altuve's days off at 1st, 2nd, 3rd.
