This was a good podcast talking about the Astros sustained success, but I started the video of Brian Anderson discussing the friction between Dusty and the FO.

The Astros did win the world series and Click was the Gm at the time but he did not really have much to do with that. To refer to him as a world series winning GM may be a bit of a stretch.

It's an accurate statement, though. The man didn't build the foundation, but he kept it afloat and added key pieces that helped it thrive. He didn't knock all the trades and signing out of the park, but some of the pieces he added and the key decisions to let some guys go ultimately helped the team be in position to win and to be in their current state of flexibility.

You can't give Click credit for Lunhow's decisions. But you can give him credit for keeping the guys that helped them win and beefing up one of the best bullpens in baseball. He earned his ring.

This is the kind of move that typically comes back to bite you. Time will tell though.

Ooorrrrr, it might be accurate. Dude happened to be the GM... when his team won the world series. It's not like he landed in the office in September and backed into that ring. Luhnow built this. We all know it. Click did good work in the intervening three years and earned this ring and every bit of respect that goes with it.

    Should've done it in 4!

But seriously, let's not try and discredit Click for this WS. He did his job, and he was the GM that helped the Astros win the WS.

    It does? When?

I'd say this is fairly unprecedented.

On the one hand, an owner taking "ownership" of being a GM doesn't seem to work... but it also looks like Crane has been the one to exclusively negotiate any major extension and FA signing (and the things he wanted his GM to do... didn't seem to get done). He was also the one who selected Luhnow... and selected Click.

Well most everyone outside of Houston hates us anyways I guess we could turn into a modern day version of the Cowboys firing people right after you win the championship.

Modern-day Cowboys? No thanks. I don't want to be speaking wistfully of the glory days ten years from now, my Astros having been an irrelevant afterthought ever since. Jerry Jones has completely ruined that franchise.

Who gives a d@mn the optics of this.

So we now care about what the media and other fans say about this (the same media and fans who continue to trash this organization at every opportunity)??

    WHO CARES!!!

Who hired Click? Crane (who also hired Luhnow).

Ultimately Crane decided after working with Click for the last three years that he wanted to go in another direction. Crane is an extremely successful businessman and since he's been the owner of the Stros there's not too much to question him on. You may not like some of the things he's done (or didn't do) but the results speak VERY loudly and under his leadership this is THE elite franchise in mlb right now.

I also feel very confident that Crane has a plan in place on who he wants to be the GM moving forward. This isn't some emotional decision he's making.

So you thank Click for his contributions (like they did) and you move on. Totally understand why Click didn't want to sign on for only one year. Crane has a vision moving forward and until he gives us a reason to question it why not just put our faith and trust in him because what he's done thus far has been unfreakinbelievable!!!

This exact situation is different, but organizational power struggles tend to end poorly. Usually better off together than apart.

I tend to ignore anyone who claims concern over bad optics. In the fullness of time you will always find that they had another agenda all along.

Crane has someone in mind. It didn't take him long to hire Dusty and Click when the suspension of Hinch and Luhnow were handed down. I'm pretty sure it will be Stearns. Crane will make it worth everyones while.

Click = Goodrum which is Meh GM = Meh baseball player (and I'm being kind). Maybe Click saw a lot of him in Goodrum, maybe even Dubon. Good luck. Move on people and the optics of this, seriously, Yankees laugh at optics and so does baseball.
