I was just about to post this, but will have to settle for First page. Wait, does this mean Luhnow is coming back!
Click did a good job of not screwing up a good thing. He assembled a really great bullpen. And he finalized a couple of really key extensions. He was the right man for the job the last three years, but it's clear that Crane wants a GM who's going to make bigger and bolder moves than Click was willing to make. I have to think Mejdal and Stearns have to be atop the list of potential GM candidates now.
The most important part of his job was maintaining/creating a productive talent pipeline in the minors, we never got a chance to find out if he was any good at that. He clearly had some trouble closing deals at the MLB level, maybe he would have gotten better, maybe not, but it didn't hurt us. 2 pennants, a World Series title, and the team is in extremely good shape for the next few years at least because he held onto so much talent instead of aggressively making moves. It's impossible to argue his tenure wasn't a resounding success, even if most of it was just pragmatic caretaking of what was left to him.
I've believed this too for quite a while, but the more that comes out the more you have to legitimately wonder if a lot of the moves actually made were directed from the front office and not Dusty's? Maybe Dusty wanted to play Chas more but the front office was force feeding him Jake and Dubon? Who knows, only two things are obvious 1. The relationship between owner/front office/on field management was not good 2. This team has so much talent it was a threat to win it all every year of Clicks tenure, and did it this year
Luhnow acquired Pressly and Brantley, both were extended by Click. I think Yuli’s most recent contract was also under Click, but I’m not sure. Under his tenure, we also extended Yordan Alvarez and Lance McCullers Jr. I’m not the biggest Click fan, but he didn’t do nothing.
There's zero f**king chance they were force feeding him Dubon. Meyers possibly, but Dubon was 100% Dusty. He was brought on to be infield depth not a starting CF.
