I'd say the main reason to bring this up is because often times - and you see this with the Harden numbers I posted - players will have a high assist number because they got lucky with shots going in. Like that Harden game I posted where he had 17 assists with 20 potential assists, his assists weren't super high in that game because he had an outlier in playmaking, they were only high because of an outlier in his teammates ability to make the shots that he was generating. So I think that's an important distinction. 11 assists on, say, 14 potential assists would mean it was just lucky shotmaking. 11 assists on 24 potential assists is a much more impressive performance from a passing standpoint, and that's what the stat is trying to emphasize.

The Hockey like assist has been around for quite a while, it is a good indicator that someone is doing the correct thing more often.

Dumbed down or not, anything "potential" adds nothing to achieving a win. Generating actual assists come with made baskets which to me would be a better indication of a PG getting the ball to people in realistic scoring situations. If I make 5 passes to a player for a wide open 3 and that player has an awful 3pt. % (and of course he misses all 5) do those 5 potential assists mean anything? ... ... I'd say no.

I'm not taking anything away from KPJ having 11 assists btw... I think that is a step in the right direction for him as a PG. Like all of the young players I just want that to become the norm and not an exceptional game.

Or we can just think he is a good NBA player with a decent contract? :D

It's hilarious watching you go around trying to justify why you didn't say what you said three messages ago.
The same as with the 11 assists. It is the eternal problem of those who try to defend players at any cost and do not analyze reality.
Pal, reality is going to end up hitting you in the face. Whether you like it or not.

You do realize I can literally see what I posted, right? As I said, I never said it's bad to have a Chris Paul-type, just that you don't NEED one. I also discuss more than just assist numbers, but I do believe assists is an important metric.

    Bolded for your convenience.

Notice that us KPJ supporters haven’t made comments like “I hope goes somewhere he can be successful.” It’s all bc we’re all about the rockets first. SOFs take notes :)

That's true. And 11 assists is not a bad thing. I just want to remind that there are a lot of things that go into being a good PG other than just the stat of Assists.

Okay, sure. But that’s like saying “there is more to being a good QB than just passing yards.” Obviously, but if the QB is throwing for a ton of yards despite a bunch of dropped passes, perhaps saying he’s not a “real” QB is a little odd.

Man, it KPJ keeps improving, we may have a revisit of last year’s blasting of Green doubters. How fun!

Over the last two games, he played less ISO ball and I liked that. But he did go away from that in the second half against the Raptors somewhat, unfortunately. I hope he continues to make a conscious effort to get everyone involved, and specifically, to give up the ball early in the shot clock to Sengun. Fine to mix it up, but just avoid the hero ball and the "Jalen and me get all the dribbles and shots" way of playing.

My major frustration with the Rockets is that we gave KPJ the keys over Alperen Sengun, and now we can’t really walk that back.

We saved KPJ. We had him by the balls to develop him how ever we wished. Instead of developing and empowering him to be a dribble machine, I wish we were making him an off-ball savage and Vernon Maxwell-esque bulk three-point shooter.

If Silas doesn’t shift rapidly, I think it will lead to his firing. KPJ has been great, but he can be way more optimized. It is insane to think that just a few weeks ago Silas was saying that Sengun can’t start because he needs the ball. His trust in KPJ to play the Luka role was/is absolutely bananas. You have to question everything about Silas If that is his assessment of his roster.

You are certainly not a quitter when it comes to dumb takes. I’m guessing your favorite player is Kyrie.
