Huh? He averaged 55 wins a year the 2 seasons he managed. He didn't ATTAIN excellence or anything even remotely resembling it.
Lowest ERA by a bullpen in the postseason (minimum 35 IP): 0.83 2022 Astros 1.05 1973 Athletics 1.28 2013 Red Sox 1.50 1992 Blue Jays
Framber Valdez threw his fastest pitch of the entire season in game 6 at 97.4 mph. He was really amped up, you could tell. Determined is an understatement.
2 left handed pitchers have ever struck out 5 consecutive batters in the World Series: Sandy Koufax Framber Valdez
I was at the double Immaculate Inning game at the Char-Griller in June. It was a Businessman's Special on a Wednesday and according to attendance numbers (24,992) was at about 62% capacity. Of nearly the 25,000 in attendance, the split was probably 60-40 in favor of Arlington, but the Astros presence was definitely noticeable and remarked on by the home crowd. I went on a whim and planned on sitting with a neighbor who took his office for a team-building outing. They are CRAZY strict on allowing you to access specific levels based on your ticket (I bought a $15 nosebleed off StubHub the morning of the game), so I couldn't get down to field level where they were, but I just found a seat behind home plate on the second level in a half-filled section dominated by Astros fans. I don't know if the current dynasty has created new Astros fans in DFW, but there is no question that with the utter collapse of Arlington since the WS years, the Metroplex has gone back to ignoring their baseball team...like they did during the first 50 years of their existence. Ranger Fans! Hardcore from 2010 to 2016!!!
Can someone explain the sitting in a Pasadena parking lot for 30+ hours to meet Altuve? I'm an Astros lifer and still stoked about the win...but this seems...crazy.
Earlier in the series I talked about "Robert Horry" moments and how the Chas catch in Game 5 was one, and I wondered what the Robert Horry moment would be in the clincher. Maldy's HBP in Game 6 was such a cerebral and brilliant mid game adjustment. He knew he couldn't get a hit off Wheeler and found a way to get on base, it was the first domino to fall and started the rally, it eventually led to Wheeler getting pulled. Compare that approach to what Schwarber did with that desperation bunt attempt. These are the championship players that make championship moves. Just brilliant.
I’ll try. When I was a kid, I was obsessed with basketball. My favorite player was Muggsy Bogues. We had a giant satellite dish and so could get all the sports channels for free. In ‘93-‘95 I watched probably 150 Hornets games. My dad never would have done something like this for me, but I would have happily waited DAYS in line to meet him if I could have, and it would meant the world to me. Altuve is a similarly inspirational player to Muggsy, so I can imagine lots of good parents going the extra mile to make their kids dreams come true.
Tuve is a local legend who is significantly admired. Stros just won the world series. He's an inspiration for so many. Enough said.
Yes. Bregman broke his index finger in Gm6. Yuli of course his knee from Gm5. Altuve injured his hammy in Gm6. Luckily they got the job done in Gm6.
Honorable mention Nasty Boys Reds 1990 - 0.00 R but only 8 2/3rds innings in the WS. Less than Game 3 alone in the ALDS for the Astros. But not as good in the NLCS.
As the salt flows freely from other fanbases with the Astro championship, make sure you remind them that the following teams have allowed an ex-Astro "cheater" post-2019 onto their pristine rosters: Arizona: Reddick Boston: Cora (coach), Marwin Chicago Cubs: Marisnick, Maybin Cincinnati: Moran Detroit: Hinch (coach), Maybin LA Angels: Stassi Milwaukee: Fisher Minnesota: Marwin, Correa NY Mets: Marisnick, JD Davis, Maybin NY Yankees: Marwin Oakland: Kemp Pittsburgh: Marisnick, Moran San Diego: Marisnick San Francisco: JD Davis Toronto: Springer, Fisher, Teoscar, Dave Hudgens (coach) By my count, that's more than half the league that's employed a "cheater." Welcome to the club!
