Well, there wasn't a red wave today so can somebody tell me if it's worth reading this or if it's the standard "The way for us to win is "MY PET THEORY OF ISSUES OR TACTICS BASED ON VIBETAKEANALYSIS""
This is actually a huge problem for the so-called MSM and the national glossy mags and the Twitterati - they listen to what Republican pollsters and operatives are telling them, talk credulously about grassroots CRT movements and that abortion and saving democracy don't matter - write a bunch of articles that they all read that reinforce these themes- and then they're blindsided when it doesn't happen in real life.
Like I said in the other thread. It turns out voters did care about abortion and preserving democracy. Prior to the election they spent their time lecturing Democrats about how wrong they were to push those issues. In the end, most of the areas where Republicans did well were in areas where they ran candidates that weren't election deniers.
It's not. The article and peoples similar "what Dems NEED to do!!" hot takes were already written before the election. The fact is the Democrats put up a hell of a fight and had some key wins in a race they historically should have gotten creamed. So the analysis should be more tactical on the margins... not rewriting the philosophical and structural makeup of half of the countries governing principles. What held the Dem line last night was protecting rights (women's... and in 2018 healthcare rights mind you) and protecting Democracy which is why the highest turnout and wins were in those swing states where Democracy really is on the line. The very simple principles of the party need to continue to be "we will protect the rights of every American while the other side is trying to erode your rights to pander to the few on the extremes." ... or something like it... and run good candidates. We then can have more detailed conversations about state by state strategy like here in Texas, Florida, and HELLO... NORTH CAROLINA which has blinking red lights. The electoral map is what it is.... but this isn't that complicated. The media folks want to hem and haw about "culture wars" but all of the data shows that Americans in elections could give 2 sh$ts about the crap that the media, celebrities, and pundits cares about.
I have told you many times across multiple threads and so have people in this very thread. I know you are just probably bored today and want to get a spark, and you are ornery because you were hoping to **** on Democrats today and push your anarchist agenda. I'm done not taking the bait.
Sure, I mean had the Supreme Court not basically put the thumb ALL THE WAY on the scale for the Republicans in redistricting and voting rights, we could actually be talking about a trifecta again.
Or you could say had Republican voters not voted for Trump along with a GOP Senate and House majority for 2 years. Look at the product of that result, and judge that result vs the 2 years of full control by a Democrat with the Presidency, House, and Senate. If Biden's campaign can articulate that contrast starting a year from now when the 2024 campaign kicks off (if it doesn't already in the next two weeks), that's a very hard message to beat for the GOP.
I never said you were MAGA I said you were MAGA like because you use a lot of the same tactics and nomenclature when talking about people who don't agree with you.
Why do you think I'm baiting? You are accusing me of being maga light and that is something I don't appreciate and will try to figure out why someone would say such a thing.
I think a core reason many react this way is related to disappointment in the effectiveness (lack there of) and corruption of the Dem base. Trying to separate lefties as different from normal Dems brings a hope to some that if enough of "them" can get elected, the government could function better. If one believes that, I think it's understandable to see why people would constantly be trying to filter out which polticans are "them" and which are not. To think of an example, a lot of people (lefties) believe polticans taking PAC money corrupts their ability to do their job, so it makes sense if one would differentiate candidates based on weather they partcipate in that or not. Is that a self satisfying appeal to group identity? I don't think so personally, I'm sure there are a few people who are closer to what you describe, but at the same time I think it's more nuanced for most.
There is a reason why GOP constantly equates progressives ideals as un-American… communist… socialist…. Woke….Because it works. Making the progressives the boogeyman has been a winning strategy for the GOP in modern America. Im not anti progressive, I just find the lack of self reflection frustrating.
Yes I’ve heard of Robert Evans. Either way you’re self identifying a very narrow group and arguing that few Democrats, Liberals, Egalitarians, etc.. meet that standard. That’s self limiting and not the way to win elections. Politics is the art of compromise. I don’t really self identify as a “moderate” (except when I said @Major should be put down so I could be King of the Moderates GOT style ) and had debates with the other “moderates”. You’re free to identify and define yourself as you like but if we’re talking about winning elections and getting policy passed thats not going to get it done.
Yes I agree and that’s what I said in what you quoted. Even as someone who coached a trans athlete I don’t usually talk about trans issues and I think I’ve talked more about that issue here then I can recall it being discussed on Morning Joe. I will repeat again trans people are very small part of the population. They could triple in number and not represent a significant part of the population. Most people can’t define CRT or even recognize what it is if it was taught.
I had to stop reading right here The sad fact is that the cultural left in and around the Democratic party has managed to associate the party with a series of views on crime, immigration, policing, free speech and of course race and gender that are quite far from those of the median voter. These unpopular views are further amplified by Democratic-leaning media and nonprofits, as well as within the Democratic party infrastructure itself, all of which are thoroughly dominated by the cultural left. this is bullsh*t to me...What "Democratic-leaning media" is pushing or amplifying these things? It is the right wing media who talks about this nonstop because it should be abundantly clear by now that they have hardly anything to fall back on that isn't culture war nonsense. 90% of the time when I see the left talking about trans people or LGBTQ issues, it is in response to vicious propaganda by the right or because of the very real threat that something like gay marriage could be overturned. it is easy to say this stuff when the other side is never held accountable and can just lie and fear monger with impunity...every GOP ad is filled with nonstop crying about some supposed rampant crime with stock footage of the streets looking like the Purge...meanwhile, the economy, abortion, and democracy were the top issues this election....listen to the GOP, and you'd think there's a rapist, pedophile, and murderer around every corner...sh*t is so over the top goofy that it's almost amusing how much they rely on fear mongering
