A 1 year contract is pretty insulting to Click. It would also leave him and the Astros in the same spot next year. A deep Astros playoff run would see Click and the Astros busy, while other teams and top GM candidates play musical chairs. Is Stearns going to turn down other job offers in September/October if he has to wait until the end of the season to see if the Astros make a change? What team is going to put their GM search on hold to see if Click will become an option. I think it would be best if they make a decision about this pairing now.

In a weird way, I actually think Click is about as good of a candidate for the job. If Crane wants to spend money and make splashy moves, Click's experience with a shoestring budget in TB might help in working around those. Click has shown humility throughout his time in Houston, and might be fine letting Crane be the face of the Astros organization, while Click carefully chooses his words responding to any turmoil. Either way, this is a really weird situation for a world series champion to be in.

This whole situation with Crane and Click is weird AF and I'm surprised they've let it get this public.

Crane clearly isn't thrilled with Click, and Click is obviously aware of this. So now we have two extremely intelligent men doing this stupid dance. This is like some Texans BS, except with smart people and not idiots.

Is it really set that there is no way Stearns will leave his "advisory" role if the right offer is there? What incentive would Milwaukee have to keep him there?

Obviously there's been nothing officially linked between Stearns and Crane so this is all conjecture...

Agreed.. although I probably would guess its not as 'out of control' as it seems to be on paper. They'll each communicate their intentions to each other and figure it out.

I'm over here looking like Peter Griffin as I've laughed at this for 30 straight seconds.

Click hasn't been that cheap. He's paid handsomely for all his signings. Some have worked out and some haven't. I only consider Pressly a good deal though he's one of the top 5 paid relievers. Neris and Baez were paid like closers.

    Pressley
    Neris
    Baez
    Odorizzi

I don't care who the damn GM is. Let's just get to free agency.

Odorizzi did the job he was paid to do - eat innings. 164.2 IP over bout a year an a half with an ERA under 4. But he took a lot of grief because he was the worst pitcher on a stacked team.

For free agancy, Crane will be the GM for all practical purposes.

Agree with this. Zero optimism covering the Astros and his writing isn't good enough to cover for that. Get this wet blanket out of here.

Did you you see his escalators. He's a bad contract for 2023 at over 12 million. Luckily we got rid of his ass by taking on a bad contract for Will Smith this season. We paid Will Smith almost 5 million for the time he was here.

    Trade Proposal:
Jose Urquidy + Pedro Leon + Yainer Diaz
    for
    Rhys Hoskins + Justin Crawford

    WHO SAYS NO

*Johan Rojas is another very interesting Phillies prospect that could be a part of a trade.

Crane has a Plan B that he likes just as much as Click on a 1 year deal. He’s basically telling click he can leave if he wants to, go see if you can find a better job,

@Nook @Redfish81 @Nick @Snake Diggit — do you guys see any internal candidates that crane would feel good about elevating for a year until Stearns frees up?

Has Crane EVER signed a contract that covered more than 4 FA years? I just don't think that's his business model.

    Altuve 7 FA
    Bregman 3 ARB - 2 FA
    Alvarez 3 ARB - 3 FA
    McCullers 5 FA

I guess he has. But only his own players.
