I thought he was targeting Footer… who was vocal on twitter regarding DV every time they brought Osuna in for a save situation. Apstein has written some glowing/praising articles about the Astros this post-season. Its not just merely ax-grinding. This is a story that warrants reporting as it is a unique situation for a team coming off a WS win.
Makes me think either the front office turmoil is preventing any commitments whatsoever OR Crane intends to fry bigger fish than Mancini for the open 1B/DH spots.
I think Crane is going after Abreu or Bell and will bring Yuli back. Yuli will be relatively cheap and it will be good from a legacy and PR standpoint. 3 year deal at a slightly lower ACV. Maybe eventually retiring his number.
Damn. I have a brain which I choose to use and don't give a damn what the narrative is supposed to be.
I'm not shocked at all. Wasn't he due 10 mil next season? No way the Astros are paying that for a part-time first baseman who can't hit. My guess is the Astros either bring back Yuli to split time with another player(Abreu?) or go all out for a younger full-time first baseman.
It feels like a power play by Crane. He could easily give Click a three year deal with the intent of replacing him next off season- but he didn’t do that, and he has caused all kinds of questions to emerge. Crane isn’t a dumb man, and is really good at forging relationships, so why would he do all of this? He is obviously trying to get his point across. I find it interesting that Click didn’t take the bait and said he and his family want to stay. I don’t think his wording was a coincidence either. We will have to wait and see what happens.
ESPN is saying they have the game exclusively. That sucks we don't get Blum and TK for opening day. I want to say in 2017 they did the banner on opening day and ring ceremony the next day.
Marshall Bryant hates diversity? I bet he enjoys all the different flavor of food and different type of gals this city has to offer though. If he doesn't, I guess he only enjoys chicken breast and ranch.
Not the same manager. This is Dustino Bakerito. Dudes speaking in Spanish the entire interview. he must have hit up chicas locas strip club all weekend. @Snow Villiers
I'm sure my memory doesn't serve me well but I remember the Astros did a while week of festivities celebration for winning a chip.
They are hunting fatter birds. Abreu, Contreras, Conforto, Bell and others. If they can financially swing it, they want someone that can hit in the heart of the order and extend the line up. It doesn’t rule out Mancini on a smaller “prove it” deal if the Astros strikeout on the others. If Abreu doesn’t suddenly fall off the side of a cliff, at his age, he is a massive improvement over Mancini.
Crane has zero compunction about signing players on his own. He has handles negotiations in the past on his own. He isn’t someone that likes to waste time, so this fits his personality.
It seems that Crane is giving Click the Correa treatment. Offer a contract that no one in their right mind would accept so he can say he tried. However, if Stearn is the target, who becomes the interim figurehead GM since Crane would be the real GM for the upcoming season.
