Its you who's falling into the trap. The GOP weaponized it - 100%. They created all of these social wedge issues. *And they win on them* because Dems have no ability to present nuance. You can keep using your approach and keep losing on those issues. Or you can fight back by neutralizing the issue by not letting the GOP demonize you.

Except this has nothing to do with what I said.

You are correct, about who created the tone and right wing talking points. But arguing that isn't the way to make progress on the issues. The way to fight back is just to be factual and mock their reliance on libsoftictok.

Another way to fight back is moderate Democrats also not being duped but you are seeing it here.

The Biden administration has bolstered subsidies and regulations for ACA, Medicare, and Medicaid? Is it as far as you want to go? I assume not, but let’s not misrepresent what has been done.

Then what did you actually say?

Yes the establishment Democrats have no ability to present nuance. Rhetorical arguments about issues has never been their strong suit. They are from a legacy age of talking points. Anyways I don't even know what your premise is.

So are leftists or the right responsible for the perception that trans rights activism is overzealous?

The ACA is the pinicle of establishment half assary and patting themselves on the back while millions of Americans still struggle to get affordable care. Insurance lobbyists love the ACA.

This sort of purity test is the issue…. And it will only backfire.

For Democrats to actually meaningful win then moderates and progressives need to compromise. Brow beating or talking down to folks who have spent their whole lives thinking about genders as binary just seems like a losing proposition. I think what puts people off to progressive cultural issues is the all or nothing approach, you either love trans folks or hate them.

That Dems should stop demonized people who are evolving on an evolving issue. The same way they won on gay rights - normalizing it, presenting it in safe ways (things like Will & Grace were massive in shifting the public consciousness). Stop treating random people who just don't know what to think on transgender issues and who've likely never knowingly met a transgender person as an evil person who's a bigot.

You win by winning people over with compassion and understanding; not by stomping your feet and telling people they are horrible. All that does is send to the arms of the GOP. You win by not telling moderates they've been suckered by the GOP because they don't take your approach. Your way of alienating people - as demonstrated in this thread - is exactly how you lose on the issue.

Trans shouldn't compete in highly competitive sports as identified sex until they have full reassignment. That's the only thing I can think of.

Yes from my understanding and consumption of leftist media and establishment media, the left uses the empathy tool more and try to to understand the hardships of rural white folks and understand the hollowing out of middle America due to things like NAFTA, automation etc. Establishment Democrats are far more dismissive of the concerns of those people.

In the entire nation there are probably 10 examples of this. In fact the GOP governor of Utah made this point when he vetoed a bill addressing this issue.

It's a very small issue that got put on the national limelight for a reason. Right wing propaganda is the reason.

That’s fine, but it has expanded healthcare coverage for millions of Americans. You are also forgetting about Medicaid and Medicare.

    Thanks for making my point.

You didn't make any point besides defending half assed measure that will never resolve the issue.

The red wave didn't happen, but everything Haidt said is correct.

The blue no matter who robots will clutch their pearls and grab their pitchforks at this gentle, thoughtful criticism, but c'est la vie.

You claim that Dems have done nothing for public health for the past 4 years and were wrong. Deal with it.

Too many of you progressives are MAGA like in your ideology, all or nothing.

Comparing people to MAGA over differing opinions is the exact venom spit firing moderates do and turn around and claim they are they even keeled ones who don't degrade people for disagreement.

Looks like the leftists listened to you silenced their opinions. Can we have a cookie? We were good boys.

You didn’t even consider the things Biden did for ACA, Medicaid, and Medicare…. When you made your public health comment…..

Oh dear that is such a severe offense that I'm just like MAGA, the group of people who believe in Qanon and election denialism. Ya that's it.

I'm sorry I offended dear leader Biden and his glorious attempts to save the nation.
