Looks like Hidalgo is going to eek this one out. I'm not sure there's enough outstanding vote left to overcome a 15000 vote deficit. Dems are also probably getting a 4-1 majority on the commissioner's court.
I'm a registered Republican and voted against Cagle. I didn't appreciate the lies and political stunts regarding county funding even though he's an okay commissioner. I think very few voters are like me though and it's generally a Harris County is blue thing.

It was all true. This isn’t the first time Cagle has done it either. The whole thing is a Republican wet dream of squeezing government of all its services except for law enforcement. First you pass a state law not allowing deductions for law enforcement in large municipalities. https://www.texastribune.org/2021/06/01/texas-abbott-defund-police-protest/amp/ Then you break quorum so the budget reverts to no new revenue so there must be cuts since costs go up for everything from fuel to health and liability insurance. But those cuts can’t come from law enforcement. So think about if this were to continue unabated year after year. Eventually you’d have nothing left except law enforcement. It’s amazing the Republicans are able to accomplish this with a 3-2 deficit at Commissioners Court. It’s a compete and total overreach by Abbot and it’s not reflective of the will of the citizens of Harris County. Thankfully at least some people paid attention enough to oust Cagle.
I would say (complete guess) maybe 100 people are like me. Most people just voted blue or red. It's not like Hidalgo was great either. I have huge libertarian leanings, but things like local and state stupidity turning down billions of medicaid funding (and essentially giving Texas money to the working poor of other red states) and this fake police defunding stunt where 6 of 8 constable departments didn't complain and 2 fatasses pulled a politics ploy with their employees just because their discretionary leftover funds got cut... that pissed me off. The budget includes hundreds of millions of dollars of federal matching funds and we piss it away. I'm on all the Cagle lists and his money begging pissed me off too. The thing is, even if he did all the right things with the budget, he probably would have still lost. This is going down to identity politics.
