thank you for this reminder... its fascinating...but this is actually omnipresent in all spheres of life and existence...not sure if these are the right words, but its an obsession with and adhering to insignificant, hard, complicated, and irrational and going away from what is simple and what works of and in itself
that’s why even among Rockets fans, Sengun has been severely underestimated just by looking at his draft position. It’s like he isn’t allowed to show the potential of a 2nd pick…NBA GMs aren’t that perfect at estimating value and potential, proven by tons of examples.
Jokic , pick 40 something , they can live with because media acknowledged him... now in their minds sengun cant touch jokic in million lives...lolololol perhaps vaccines damaged their brains? or just a good ole inferiority complex? LOL
Lol you know some of these Sengun doubters calling us dumb now because of indicating the similarities in between and everyone forgets how casuals called Jokic supporters in the past. You know none of these people have the capacity to figure out the potential right in front of them.
The offense should b basically kpj or the best ball handler walk the ball up. If Sengun is open at the post or ask for it, pass it to him so he can control the offense. Sengun rarely waste the shot clock and if he can't find an opening he will pass it back or work his post game magic Now Green or KPJ should utilize screens and then iso/drive and kick it out for an open 3 pt shot. Rinse and repeat. Fast break, it's every man for himself and pass for the easiest bucket. Sengun is literally drawing double team when he's in the post. I also like that sengun is getting better at baiting fouls. Last year the refs refused to blow the whistle for sengun
what makes it shocking when these stats are almost the same? Sengun is a year younger compared to Jokic’s sophomore season.
I would argue sengun could have a higher career average, if Silas actually played him last season instead of fawning over C. Wood.
His defense is on average pace for a big man, I think he’ll be close to his full defensive presence by the end of year 3. I’m conscious that he’s not a good defender right now but to this day I haven’t seen evidence he won’t become an average defender with above average shot blocking. He’s not done getting in better shape either, nothing wrong necessarily but there’s another level coming there. Expect more explosiveness from him. His offense is way ahead of schedule though. In one season and a bit, Sengun is flashing the kind of numbers in the post that the all time greats posted at the same age. Much better than Jokic in the post this season at similar volume. You can’t seem to force him into taking 3pt shots like you could with a Ben Simmons, and he doesn’t look far from being a passable 3pt threat. Sengun will post you up all the way from the 3pt line in 3 seconds or less. Assist to turnover will only increase throughout his career. He would be an empty stats player without this extra dimension to his game, we’re lucky he has it. I know most people here are extra cautious about “foreign” prospects but you can relax we have a really great piece here. All the concerns we have are manageable and none of them prevent a star ceiling. All the signs are good. All his troll fans are ignorable. Life is good.
The difference here is potential. Jokic is massive; not only is he taller, but he also outweighs Sengun by 50 pounds. Those are traits that Sengun will never be able to gain in his lifetime. Then there is also the fact that Jokic entered the league a SIGNIFICANTLY BETTER shooter than Alp.
I am expecting Sengun to surprise everyone with his shooting improvement. I mean, he is not good now, but it looks like he never worked on it until now. So it is not the same as he is a bad shooter because he can't shoot. It is more like, he has not worked on this skill at all, and we don't have a good way to measure how good he can be. The only thing we have are the free throws and they look good.
https://www.basketball-reference.com/draft/NBA_2014.html LOL look at all the people drafted before Jokic...
This is what I am banking on as well, that he doesn’t look like a bad shooter. I don’t even care if he never picks up the three if he can hit the midrange reliably ala Scola. If he can’t do that, then the only other way is to be absolutely elite from post. I am talking about McHale levels here. That’s an even harder road though as his middling physical traits do him no favors.
