tilman wasnt gonna give him a fully guarenteed contract anyways. KPJ's contract is the model tilman wants to use going forward

I hate evaluating players like Martin.

You get blown away by the crazy athleticism and wow plays, and then tend to forget to evaluate if the player is actually any good.

    Rudy Gay syndrome.

Gay wasn't an All Star, still a good player.

Not much to this story in my opinion. He says he’s open to a contract extension. It doesn’t sound like anything is imminent. It says maybe something could happen this next summer. At this point it doesn’t benefit Martin to shut any doors. He’s saying what he should say.

I'm not really seeing a 'breakout season' yet. His numbers are pretty much in line with his career numbers just more minutes.

I'm not sure if the minutes will remain high when you consider Tate hasn't played much yet.

Still, I would be open to a Tate like team friendly deal in exchange for paying him a year early. I don't see any big free agents that will move the needle for us so I don't know if holding cap space has a ton of value.

He looks a lot more decisive, he is more confident in his shot and his shot has been decent. Stats only tell half the story. He's still very raw and has a lot of areas that need improvement but he does have explosive athleticism and great energy.

Wouldn't give him a massive contract for that though lol. Something in the Tate range seems fair.

A contract similar to Tate's with team options seems fair to me.

Much rather pay him than Tate, KMJ still has upside.

Numbers don't tell the full story. If you just went by stats, Westbrook would be the greatest of all time.

He is far better now and can bang with some bigger players because he is stronger. The last 2 games he has been great, just needs to find that consistency, but that also comes with consistent playing time.

He's a good young two-way player, extend him. You can always make adjustments and moves later if needed.

If you find talent, nurture and develop it if they are on board, last-place teams need all they can get.

I think finding his 'right' contract is harder than KPJ. What do you pay a hustle guy who makes splash plays, in a hot shooting streak whose only elite skill is jumping?

I like the guy. It all comes down to the numbers, but I think he could be a top 6th man, and big energy off the bench.

Martin is part of our new, young and athletic rockets. We are keeping him.

And playing in his 16th season in the NBA, no less. Who would've thunk it?
