That's not a bad point because inflation would likely be up but I would say probably not as bad and Russia wouldn't be in ukraine. Trump would have pushed to keep the Fed from raising rates as hard.
I'm would be very happy to be wrong, but I think swing voters don't care. Not that they DON'T care, but similar to climate change, democracy is a complex process that most people don't see the danger of it now. There is "time" to work through it later. Or we'll just adapt. It's typical human behavior to weigh immediate short-term issues over longer-term issues, especially something that is complex, assumed to be a given, and pretty abstract.
61 percent of GOP voters believe that a candidate that lost by millions of votes actually won the election. Those same people spam rhetoric about traditional values and how the gays and immigrants are ruining society. The largest cable news program in the nation dedicates a primetime slot to someone who has routinely espoused rhetoric about white people being replaced in a concentrated purposeful effort to dilute the white Christian population in America. Yes we do have a major fascist party in America. Or do you think fascism is some mustache twirling dude who says explicitly that they want to exterminate all the Jews? Fascism comes in a slow creep. It's not like a Hollywood movie.
Oh, that was your point. That's much better. Sure, from your point of view, it's insane. I think it's extremely valid.
I think unlike socialism there are no organizations. DSA and Socialist Alternative are huge. Anything gets that big for fascists I'll join an anti fascist movement.
Yeah there's no way Trump wouldn't have strong armed the Fed into keeping rates low, and right now house prices would be pricing anyone making under 400K a year out of the market, and creating more and more poverty with people renting. Russia I think would have been in Ukraine, but not in the same way. I think Zelensky would have been pushed out, and a Putin lacky would be running the country. However, NATO would have been a much bigger wildcard with all the other Baltic countries freaking out that they were going to be next to be annexed & their leaders were about to be "replaced" as well. I would say that world war actually would have been more likely with a frantic NATO and EU than what we have now even though... yes in the short term, lives would have been saved in Ukraine. Lives that would be forced to live in Russia now when most (like 90% when polled) wanted nothing to do with that life. But to my point.... I think it's disingenuous to discount what people feel about with Democracy when the shoe is on the other foot. However as a party, we have a history in the past 20 or 30 years at least of putting our money where our mouths are when it comes to actually showing that there is a respect for Democracy that the other side hasn't. (see Al Gore vs Jan 6).
Orwell suggested those type of organizations you are looking for are going to be labeled with euphemism like the "Heritage foundation" or "Federalist society" or any society that has the word "liberty" in it. Anyways, the issue is you might be knee deep in fascist adjacent rhetoric where you might be more sympathetic to their causes where you are blindsides by their rising extremism. This happened in Weimar Germany with the moderate conservatives in Germany who thought the Nazis before they were as infamous were the lesser of two evils compared to the "Cultural Bolsheviks" as they are today. Have you ever met that dude who wanted criminal code for burning an American flag? Then you've met fascists. Again, fascism is the belief that a nation's traditional values and ethnic and or religious identify must be defended at all cost even at the expense of individual liberty and democracy. So ya the GOIP is the fascist party as they meet that criteria. A majority of the GOP are willing to claim they won an election they lost by millions of votes while espousing rhetoric about their culture being replaced. That's fascism. What else is fascism to you? Does it literally have to slap you across the face for you to see the rising tide of fascism? Also notice how democratic socialists aren't coy about who they are unlike fascists and white supremacists who tap dance trying to pretend they aren't those things. Why? Because there is nothing inherently toxic about wanting a single payer healthcare system or more worker rights. It's not something to be ashamed about. It is more toxic and less pleasing to express opinions that you believe that your race or culture are being diluted and is the core reason for the downfall of society. You know that **** won't fly mainstream so hence the dog whistle.
You had a Russia hoax for years and propped up Putin to be a geopolitical genius manipulator when he is just an inbred moron with a crumbling military. The new normal is complaining about process when elections don't go either parties way. It been that way for years.
I'm honestly just checking in for the meltdown. People already calling swing voters stupid who care about feeding their family more than an activists ideals about democracy.
Excuse me did this apparent "Russian Hoax" you are referring to create a narrative that millions of ballots are fake and was there any attempt to completely dump the ballots of entire districts like the largest black voting district in the nation effectively violating thousands of citizens' constitutional rights? Putin found a cost effective and efficient way to spread disinformation in benefit of one candidate he prefers over another by creating troll farms that spam American special media sites with propaganda that again benefits one candidate over the other. SO calling that out as an actual thing that happened is apparently the same as flipping the table after loosing by millions of votes and saying you won. Try to be a little bit more sincere. You're rhetoric is going into absurd MAGA territory here.
Calling out an actual thing that happened? I think you don't remember the crazy **** people were saying.
I love dem weasel words. Remove nuance and your opinion always sounds so confident. Who is saying this one election is immediately going to end the Republic if the GOP wins? Who is saying this? It's a slow trickle. Anyways
If you have an ounce of intellectual curiousity and want maybe some insight into why there is concern over a rising tide of fascism, here are the actual mechanisms the GOP is trying to use to subvert Democracy: https://www.newyorker.com/news/dail...o-put-election-deniers-in-charge-of-elections
They were saying millions of votes are fake news? Rhetoric about Trump being influenced by a foreign actor is NO WHERE NEAR AS TOXIC as the campaign to erode trust in our vote counting. Please be a serious person. You know these aren't equivalent.
Reminds me of a quote " the greatest trick devil ever pulled was to convince the world he did not exist” of course fascism is nowhere on the ballot .. it doesn't exist!!
Also another quote that is relevant: "When Fascism comes to America, it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying a cross"
