Yes, not just IPO money, but a lot of money being raised in general. That obviously heats up the "war for talent", which increases the sense of entitlement. People get tons of offers. But they will find out much of it is fool's gold when the well runs dry - and that loyalty would have served them better.

I think you will see that we have only seen the beginning of mass layoffs. There's a lot more to come.

In big tech??.. naw. Like with my situation, people leave on their own and the overlay people that fall back into their core business do stay valuable in the long run. The question is.. Is the core business strong even if growth projects are destined to fail?? Is that’s the case many of these tech companies aren’t going to be scared of non profitability in the short term that could be solved in the short that’ll lead to long term problems with glassdoor reputation hits and again.. the huge cost in hiring especially when your Glassdoor ratings suck and you have to pay double to lure someone to come work there that is a flight risk if they do come on board.

Reputation for workers is a big deal in tech because of this. Why do you think the first thing they do when they get their ipo money is put 50k orange juice machines in the office and pay Bon Jovi to play at their sales conference??

What Elon is doing is the exception. And it’s not even close. It’s why he probably thinks he’s a genius for zigging when everyone else zags. However he zigged his car right off the road and into the ditch and expects to get the highest bid for that car at Barrett Jackson.

An example would be Tesla expanding into something like I dunno… aerospace. Maybe the battery engineers are taking up payroll if the business doesn’t take off but it wouldn’t be unheard of to take a loss to keep those engineers on board and fold them back into overlay engineer positions in auto. A lot of the people hired would leave anyways and the auto side might be looking at an engineer shortage down the line in two years anyways.

I think Tesla as a core business is strong but not more than a brand like VW or BMW. They aren’t Apple or Google though from an investment standpoint. The stock is destined to tank and then probably moderate. By that time I Elon will be long gone. The other shareholders im sure understand what Tesla is going to be long term and want him out so they can have a better grasp on not overextending their growth beyond their capability.

Also him sharing Nazi symbols on social media isn’t going to help their brand either. I’m sure they want him out and see him as the biggest problem.

I disagree entirely. The only way to improve your worth in this economy is to switch jobs every few years while you're young. Once you have a family, its a different story but my salary might be half of what it is today if I had just stuck with a single company. Annual raises of 5% can't compete with 20+% increases in pay for each jump. I used to switch jobs every two years because that is how you get big raises.

Now with that said, I have a family so I don't do any of that anymore. But to call people who bid up job offers in a good economy, "leeches" is absurd. Every employee should seek out the most value for their services (while balancing for priorities like stability, work/life balance, etc..). I myself have stayed away from hyper growth companies but not because employees there are entitled. It's actually the opposite. Those companies will sometimes work their employees into the ground. A company like Meta or Amazon is extremely demanding of its employees. At least in my line of work, I'd never ever get a 40-hour week at those companies.

The fact that these companies are now doing mass layoffs is a normal part of capitalism. But I'm not sure how this is somehow proof that workers are "entitled."

I should clarify - I was talking about two different things. I am not blaming people for taking a higher job offer. I am blaming those who act in an entitled way. These two things can coincide, but can also happen completely independently from each other.

The smart people do not burn bridges even if they go for a higher offer (which is entirely their right). Some just think it's smart to stink up the joint while they are there and then, on top of it all, to burn bridges when they leave. Those are the ones I was talking about.

    Apologies if that wasn't clear.

It's pretty much 100 % accurate. Obviously the characters are somewhat exaggerated for effect and for the lulz, but it's all true. I noticed something with Mike Judge even when he was doing Beavis and Butthead - he is great at observing certain types of characters and making their characteristics part of the figures he creates.

Idk. Before I got put on medical leave I was working over 60 hours a week for a tech company. But I was in sales, I don’t know how the other departments operate.

I know it flew right over your head, but that's not really something I would brag about. It's true though, the only thing I voluntarily did outside of what I had to do in high school was taking a typewriting course, and that ended up being more useful than most everything else I learned in high school. The reason was that I saw my father (a doctor) type his referral letters on a super old typewriter and I realized it was really unnecessary, repetitive work since most of it was just the same blocks of text. At the same time, i really wanted a computer for playing computer games. So I convinced my parents to buy me a computer in exchange for me typing up my father's doctor's letters. Got an Atari ST. This was like 1987 or so (my first computer was a ZX Spectrum in 1984 or 1985, rubber keyboard and all - yes, I am old). 90 % of the time, it was used for games. And I helped my dad. So it was good for everyone. The only thing I regret is that I never really learned how to code.
