Girl fights are like watching the WNBA, no amazing athleticism and generally inferior skills to the men (with a few notable exceptions), leading to disappointing fight outcomes.
I see both sides of it. When you have a lead, especially a decent lead, you are very very unlikely to lose the game without traffic on the bases. You can throw a dead red fastball with little movement down the middle and there would be close to a 50/50 proposition that the result would be an out, or a swing and miss or foul. So it is a mentality really, don't be afraid to give up contact and be aggressive.
This makes no sense. Suarez pitched 5 shutout innings and would be on full rest in a Game 7. Nola's given up 5 and 3 runs and not even made it 5 innings in his 2 starts and would be on 3 days rest. I get wanting to do anything possible to survive and make it to a Game 7, but that could backfire on the Phillies.
This. If you walk someone you've got traffic on base. You've wasted at least 4 pitches. Are off and now have to pitch from the stretch. Giving up a solo HR isn't good but at least you threw a strike and you just move on to the next hitter without worrying about someone trying to steal.
Smoltz was not terribly cerebral as a pitcher either. People assume he was because he was very successful and played on those Braves teams with Maddux and Glavine, that were more into the numbers part of pitching. Smoltz just had really good stuff and pitched predictably in counts and was for the most part someone that used conventional wisdom. He also has been away from the game long enough to not really appreciate some of the ways the modern game is played. It is easier to dismiss the effectiveness of analytics when you can reach the Hall of Fame largely based on your ability to just throw the ball by everyone.
The ONLY colors I see are Orange and Blue! The more dancing they do, the more wins we are stacking up! I’ve never EVER seen players dance after a loss. That tells me you hate winning. SO GTFO.
I have to admit, watching Harper play this entire playoff season has given me a greater appreciation for him. He isn't always healthy and his glove isn't special but he is the rare guy that can still hit elite pitching. Having him play 1st for the Astros or DH would be pretty special. He is really nice because you can build a line up around him.
We said that in 2017, 5 years later we're still f**king awesome and should be for at least a few more years.
Not nearly as knowledgeable about baseball… But should we move Yordan back to DH and put a stronger defender in the outfield?
Aaron Nola's arm is going to fall off. Anything can happen but Nola hasn't looked right the last few times he has pitched.
Yordan is an average left fielder, his arm is really good and his bat is better when he plays the field. I don't think it is right or wrong to DH Alvarez, so it isn't a crazy idea. I think it depends on who you are going to DH, are they better in the field that Alvarez? If the Astros get a lead of three or more runs, you may see them make a defensive replacement.
Yordan isn’t the best fielder but his arm is insane. He’s learned how to play at mmp. It’s kind of a diss to move him at this point and dusty won’t do it. Plus you handicap your self from ever bringing a new hitter in, cuz you will never pinch for Yordan.
In honor of the Mancini play, I am watching "The Pink Panther", "Return of the Pink Panther" and "A Shot in the Dark."
