Agreed, I just go based on what I've seen and gut. I've learned to trust it more now in these days of people bending analytics to paint a story about a player or team in the same way accountants bend books to make a company look profitable when they aren't. You may be right but I'd give the kid this year and next before passing judgement. He's got unique physical gifts and a good head on his shoulders. I think he'll be alright and hope he'll be much more than that. We have 3 unique talents on the team and he's one of them. I wouldn't get worked up over his struggles quite yet or get enamored by Paolo's PPG (or Mathurins). It's early and it's a marathon not a race. I'm not going to hit the panic button, especially with his game against Utah as a reference point. If it's January or Feb and he still hasn't progressed I'd begin to worry a bit. Last night calmed my nerves a lot because it seemed like the team has figured something out about it's structure. We'll see if they move forward with that or not.
You think Capela has extreme ball handling skills? He doesn't need to do behind the back dribbles to get to the rim. He just needs to run to the hoop, get the pass and then gather dunk the ball.
Capela at that age is longer, and way more athletic than Jabari. Jabari barely gets off the floor when he tries to jump, he gets blocked very easily on all shots near the rim
Jabari is an athletic beast why you acting like he is Ryan Anderson? He wouldnt be consensus no 3 if he a stiff. https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/s/smithja05.html What you are saying is false since he literally has 1 dunk attempt all season so its not like he is getting blocked, he doesnt even try. Dude is just charmin soft. He cam fix his shot but I dunno if he can fix being soft its gonna require a mental reconditioning.
Bro he is consensus top 3, he wouldnt be rated higher than Ivey if he was a stiff. The fact that he can guard guys 1-5 shows he is pretty athletic.
Capela was 20 when he entered the NBA eight years ago. I can't remember if he was more athletic, but for the first months, he looked like an absolute project, the second coming of Hasheem Thabeet. Way worse than how Smith looks now IMO. But after spending most of the season in the developmental league under the tutelage of Jack Sikma, Capela looked like a different player. By the end of the season, he even contributed in the playoffs for a contending team. I wish Smith could get some time out of the spotlight to develop and get acclimated, like Capela did. But alas, that's not a "luxury" given to a top 3 pick on a non-contending team.
Athletic enough. Not a super bouncy guy by any stretch. A good defender because he knows how, not because he has supreme gifts
Where did I say Jabari is Ryan Anderson athletically. Capela has a bigger wing span, longer standing reach and is much more explosive than Jabari. I have yet to see Jabari successfully roll to the rim and catch a lob like Capela. Jabari was drafted for his ability to shoot at 6'11, his lack of explosion, average athleticm and general lack of finish around the rim was a known weakness and continues to be one. I'm not even hating on the guy, I could care less if he plays above the rim, he probably never will due to mostly physical limitations. I just want him to shoot better
To be able to defend guards while beig 6-11 means he does have considerable gifts, gifts which he isnt using cuz he is charmin soft.
You keyboard warriors need to go outside and enjoy life. Remember where we were this time last year with Jalen Green? Everything will be okay.
He's gifted in that he's quite quick laterally so he can stop guards. He's just not that gifted in the vertical department. Then again we didn't draft him to play above the rim
Capela got easy points sitting in the dunkers spot. If you want Jabari to play that same position as Capela, then we obviously aren't utlizing his major strength of his shooting.
You are missing the point. Paolo benefits from the ball in his hands. At this juncture you do not want the ball in Jabari’s hands. A team with Cole Anthony Suggs Franz and Wendell Carter is a lot of mouths to feed. It has nothing to do with coaching or opportunity. Regardless of how you feel about Silas people don’t just become NBA coaches with no plan or idea of what they are supposed to do. Jabari doesn’t have the ball because he currently isn’t capable of being that player. But by all means let’s penalize Banchero because he is that player. This has nothing to do with coaching
