hockey mask wasn't used until the 3rd movie... a prequel would be set in the early 50s? jason's mom getting on her satanic groove in her youth with orgies and murder wicker man style?

Wasn't there a Friday the 13th TV series on CW or UPN?

It had nothing to do with the movies. It was about these people tracking down cursed items from an antique shop. I loved it.

They may still tie it in. They have the rights to it.

I vaguely remember it having something do with a cursed antique shop.

There was one a long time ago where it wasn’t about Jason

I'll be surprised if this isn't absolutely awful.

If this were some show set in the woods where creepy things were happening, or a prequel type deal, that would be one thing. But a slasher series with a supernatural killer... over many episodes? How do you keep the tension up and the audience engaged?

    Jason deserves better.

We don't know what Jason was doing from the time he supposedly drowned as a youngster through to the time he grew up to watch his Mom be decapitated and become a serial killer. Was he living at the bottom of the lake?

They've done some good stuff, but every studio has hits and misses.

I have a few reasons to be concerned...

    1. Sean Cunningham (the producer and creative forced behind the films) is not a part of this project. Victor Miller (Friday the 13th's writer) has claimed on the record to hate the sequels. God bless Betsy Palmer, but there's no stinking franchise without Jason as we've come to know him.
    2. This is probably being rushed to stave off more lawsuits and get ahead of any Jason films.
    3. Most horror is done on the cheap and this is going to be on Peacock of all places.
    4. Good horror, and slashers in particular, are like sex; they build up and then you get a release. I don't know how you get that buildup, plus the blood and guts that fans are going to expect today, over multiple episodes, at least with a linear story structure.

I'm setting my expectations quite low. Hopefully they'll be exceeded.

It has a chance at being good with Bryan Fuller being the showrunner.

Friday the 13th Franchise Announces Expansive 'Jason Universe'
    BYMANUEL DEMEGILLO
    PUBLISHED 2 DAYS AGO

Horror fans should see more of Jason Voorhees in 2024 as the slasher claims multiple platforms to expand the Friday the 13th franchise.

2024 is a great year for Friday the 13th with a slew of new projects planned for the franchise. The Jason Universe launches across multiple media platforms promising thrilling experiences for horror and slasher fans.

VOD streamer Horror, Inc. is ramping up bigger plans for the Friday the 13th franchise with the launch of Jason Universe, a hub for releases in entertainment, games, interactive experiences, merchandise and more to be revealed. Horror, Inc. President Robert Barsamian, original Friday the 13th screenplay writer Victor Miller, and his lawyer Marc Toberoff are collaborating on the project "activations" that would bring forth a new era for the franchise. Barsamian told IGN that the first wave of new projects will be announced in the coming months via social media and the official Jason Universe website.

"For decades, Jason shocked and thrilled audiences who kept coming back for more," Barsamian asserted. "We're excited to work with Victor Miller and Marc Toberoff on new projects we'll announce in the coming months." The Jason Universe revives hope for the prequel TV series Crystal Lake given the show's reported production hurdles (Barsamian is the series executive producer under Peacock and A24). Hannibal and American Gods producer Bryan Fuller joined the project as a head creative when Crystal Lake was announced in 2022, but he recently confirmed his exit amid reports the series has been canceled. The launch of Jason Universe hopefully means Crystal Lake is moving forward even if it takes a different direction.

The 'Jason Universe' sounds lame -- they should call it the 13th Universe or something.
