he is not gonna be getting easy assisted layups and dunks with this guard play and system, and he can’t create for himself right now, so until his jumper reaches some consistent good baseline, it’s gonna be uglier than Shaq’s toenails
A large part is confidence issue. Confidence is a big part of shooting. There are shots he should have the ability to make but he bricked. When he gets the ball, he's too nervous. Should just rise up and shoot. He has that one dribble side step pull up shot that few people can block, even in the NBA. Don't think. Just let it fly.
He looks pretty terrible right now, but it takes some guys longer to adjust than others. I think he’ll eventually get it right.
he may be getting ignored, but he is the 5th option playing with a starting lineup that all wants and needs the ball in their hands backcourt is averaging 36 shots, 10 free throws, and just 7 assists between the 2 of them if he’s on the court with a bench unit, well the Rockets still won’t have a plan offensively since it’s basically a free for all out there
I just want to remind everyone dumb enough to **** on Jabari and implying / calling him a bust less than 10 games into the season that Dirk Nowitzki shot 31.2% from 3 his rookie season and had a FG% of 35.9%. Smith is currently at 33% from 3.
He is not set up for any shots and he doesn't know when he'll get the ball. That sets him off rhythm. On top of that he did not shoot well to start the season. Lost confidence and started taking bad shots, which of course did not help. He will be okay one way or the other, but good coaching can make it much faster. Not having a structure hurts the rookies a lot, and a player whose main asset is shooting is effected even more.
Spot up shooter? You actually have to make some of those to be called a spot up shooter. Right now it’s like spotting up Westbrick or schrooder. As far I’m concerned Jabari is a Zach Collins or Steven adams type of player/project some one that can play defense but hopefully developes a shot.
Damn, even during this slump against some really tough opponents, he's hitting 33% from 3? That's very encouraging. Could've sworn he was doing worse. That's bound to go up. Starting to remind me of a young Kevin Garnett but with 3pt range. Just keep improving his quality of shots
Your constant "LESS THAN 10 GAMES" posts are pretty useless when it's not about an out of nowhere total slump, but that many of us explained these drastic skill issues he had even when he was playing against NCAA competition and nothing could be blamed on an ankle or adjusting to the NBA. The shooting percentages and d will improve somewhat, but the rest of his skill package looked the exact same in college even when he scored 30+ by face-up shooting over smaller college defenders.
Starting to get irritated with BrickAri. I defended him for not having ball handling ability but his problem isnt his ball handling, its his SOFT play. Ok the coach doesnt run a play for him so what? Why not crash the boards? Get the rebound and dunk the ball, you dont need ball handling for that 2 steps and you at the rim. Look at Zion or Tari Eason, plays dont get called for them too but they get theirs by crashing the boards and going to the line. And Jabari shoots fts like a dream, he should be fishing for fouls aggressively instead he is avoiding contact like he is Mr. Glass. 4 rebs and 0 FTA for a dude who can't buy a bucket, seriously? That aint on Silas, thats on Jabari not being aggressive and not wanting the ball enough. Thats on Jabari stsnding on the corner waiting for the ball that never comes and then hanging his head avoiding contact afterwards. Thats on Jabari not having the balls to take it to the rack when someone does indeed pass him the ball. Horrible and absolutely disappointing after all that branding of him being the next Giannis or Scottie Barnes in terms of outworking his guy on the court. I am ok with him shooting blanks but him acting like a diva on the court when he is shooting blanks is just disappointing. I thought we got a super star with role player mentality not a role player with diva mentality.
