By forcing him into switches on the other end and giving up a bucket every time he is forced to guard someone on the perimeter.
Yeah, I think the context will be important - on the right roster with a rim protecting switchable big with range along side him, it could work defensively. I have hope Jabari could be that guy but it’s too early to tell yet.
This happens with several bigs in the NBA, most of which do not have the hands that Sengun has to be a nuisance on the perimeter, nor the gifts that Sengun has on offense. He is a teenager whose body has rapidly developed over the last 3 years, too. By no means a finished product, but also not the turnstile people want to make him out to be. Also, there are ways to combat this via team defense, and ways to make the team pay on the other end. There isn't binary success in the NBA, and there is no reason that Sengun can't make elite rotations within a pick-and-roll, ala Chuck Hayes. I believe that in time we can build a top 5 defense with Tari+Jabari+Sengun. Would be nice If our guards could defend some too.
Some of the things he does is too good to be a back up big, some of the thing he cannot do is too important for a starter. It is ultimately up to him, how much he will develop, but the correct way to position him is maybe not a starter or back up big, but rather find a complementary big who can replace him when needed. An equal who does different things that brings versatility to the roster. I think he will be much more than a backup big. Somewhere between Sabonis and the manu of big men.
That is the reason why Rockets should sign Aleksander Balcerowski, 21 years old, 7'2", just similar to Moses Brown (likely half an inch taller than Brown) and comes cheap. Although Sengun did not start all of the games he is still in top 15 centers in NBA stats (he is the only guy in top 26 who did not regularly started) and needs a Moses Brown type of back-up. Zubac scored 20+ points against Rockets last year, 16 pts two days ago and 5 today. Sengun learns how to fight against bigs. I generally watch games through opponents' stream (can not stand to Ryan's childish comments and irrelevant memories) and nearly all off them value Sengun very high. If Rockets decides that Sengun is not starter it would be Rockets' problem not Sengun's. At least half of the lague will offer him starting position.
You know, after tonight, he looks like the guy who goes to the gym and doesn't look that great, but then he plays and you start to go, ok, he is pretty good, but in his head he is like....I am the best player on the floor. Other players don't believe it, but the more he plays the better he gets..... I am 100% fine with making him the FOCAL point on the offense, can't hurt let's see how it goes. Tip my hat to Alpi tonight he was amazing, and SILAS screwed him by not challenging that 4th foul where he didn't foul at all. DD
That’s my lovely cutiepie ❤️ don’t worry about Silas, he saves his right to challenge for the next season. Very smart man.
I don't know about the right pairing, but there is still a lot to explore in the roster. Bruno is there. Once Bari and Tari are integrated, and the guards play better defense, who knows how much of a liability Sengun will be. It is way too early to assume that he will not improve on the defensive end. He already improved massively and have I mentioned that he is just 20?
Balcerowski would be a nice backup behind Sengun, but maybe too slow. No reason not to give him a chance though.
Stop whining I don't bully, I just speak what I see...... Happy for Alpi, think he and KPJ are our 2 best players they need to find a way to work together and it will make our team better. DD
Give him a shot, screw it. Jabari, Jalen, and KPJ are making it hard to watch these games. Idk how much more I can take. The young excuse is getting old, they should looking better out there
