I have visitors from Europe come stay with me.
They LOVE to rag on any little thing about usa they can grab on to. One was making fun of us having drive up atms...

But the consistent reaction from all of them is their shock at how nice everyone is. Like it's a big deal to be courteous and polite!
Many of them want to leave their hate in their country.

Of course then they come here importing their hate.

Florida is now 1/5 foreign born so soon enough they will have to escape themselves there too.

 

And that's a big part of the reason I've decided not to antagonize people I disagree with anymore. I think we're in troubled times and there's a lot of risk posed by the propaganda / misinformation being pushed out there. Right now, much of it is coming from the right - but once you dip into that well, everyone else will and it will become an even bigger mess. We've seen the disaster of both right wing and left wing regimes in the world - all built on propaganda and circumventing courts, elections, etc.

To me, I'm less concerned about the issues that many people argue over, and more concerned about the state of our democracy and the election system.

 

Angry about inflation's effects on groceries, restaurant prices and raw materials costs? Wait until you see what they're like after the illegal backbone of food production and construction is forcibly removed from the market!

We need less demonization of non-STEM educational fields.

We need more introspective abilities.

We need to remove incentives that create profitability and wealth from spreading blatant misinformation (algorithmic content aggregation).

We need more robust mental health services.

Except that many of those Americans receiving assistance in the form of WIC benefits and Section 8 benefits are already working while many of them aren't employable to due to disability. So you would just compound a continued worker shortage by making life even harder on those who are already struggling to survive.

Given that CA already has high inflation wouldn't the removal of lower cost labor just lead to even greater inflation combounding CA's problems?
