All these edgelords wanting to turn Twitter into Parler and Truth Social. Normal people don't want to see that ****. That is why one of two things is going to happen. Elon is going to back off of this whole "free-speech" shtick or Twitter is going to go bye-bye. Advertisers are not going to pay to be on some ****ed up version of 4chan and people won't pay for blue checks on that type of platform either.

Ad free platforms perform much better than ad driven platforms.

When you pay $15.00 for a movie ticket on opening night, there is a reason why they call the first 15 minutes movie trailers. If we called them for what they really were, people would reject it.

Of course. When your investors demand network growth and shitty management chooses to allow the least desirable accounts to participate, it will become a poorly ran platform. Facebook banked on VR to keep it subs but has failed miserably. We are not sure what Musk has in mind for Twitter.

You vastly underrate the determination of trolls and edgelords. Vastly.

    Lol

I’m ok with a pay model if there’s more value add than just a check. It also puts onus on Twitter to actually verify and do customer service for their paying customers. The cost needs to be justified though. Musk throwing out what he thinks is ‘cheap’ is dumb.

Also couldn't it be a way for Elon to have incentive for a foreign government to spam thousands of "verified" accounts because now there is a profit incentive to have as many verified accounts as possible?

one day we’re gonna need a subscription in order to access Wikipedia or even Google search engine

not even sure what perks would have to be included to be get a large amount of people to pay for this

Its really not that difficult. Keep your circle tight. For example i have a low tolerance for political posts on Twitter. I either remove the person or mute them if they continue to make most of their content about politics.

Seems like we need net neutrality. Everything should be free.

The blue check was completely arbitrary to begin with. Go ahead and charge for it.

It was probably the only way for the Ligma Johnsons of the world to get laid in SF.

The way I see it, it's a tax on people who leverage the platform the most ('celebrities'). Should result in less ads for all of us.

What would really tank the platform is instituting some REAL ID policy, like how UBER/LYFT verify you're a real person before you can drive for them, etc.
