This is going to court and he'll lose this one too. Unlike most employees, Twitter's leadership had contracts with pretty rigid terms around vesting. The higher ups all had clauses that accelerated their vesting if a change in ownership occurred and the only way to fire for cause is to prove that they either broke the law or broke company policy. I'm sure Elon and his team will do their best to try and find some dirt on the former C-Level leadership.

Now Elon can fire rank and file employees before their next vesting cycle and probably get away with it (which is probably one of the reasons why he wants to fire so many people). But he's likely not going to win this in court. And this will turn into the Delaware Chancery Court debacle where if it does go to court, he'll probably have to cave because he doesn't want to let the other side depose him or go through discovery.

Facebook made a TON during the Trump campaign using fake news and user tracking. It also won Trump the election. FB (and Apple) have gone through lengths to "fix" that "problem". And now their (FB) advertising platform sucks.

It looks like Twitter might be dabbling and looking to get into that. Targeted fake news and narratives at a price.

I disagree, in fact I think Musk's key focus is to reduce reliance on ad revenue. Twitter's problem is that its ad business is awful and generates a fraction of the revenue of other social media platforms. And nothing from Musk's previous statements indicates that he has any interest in doubling down on ads as a way to increase revenue.

The whole controversy around blue checks and Twitter Blue is where this is headed. Musk wants a model driven by recurring/subscription revenue rather than ads. I expect more twitter features to get locked behind Twitter Blue over time as well as a variable subscription price based on the number of followers one has. Basically all of the free media and influence that people with large followings get will soon start to come at a cost. Realistically, this is the only way to monetize the platform. Ads themselves will become less important as more people are pushed into subscriptions (in part because Twitter Blue already removes ads as part of the package)

Everyone is using the subscription model
It’s the most efficient business model

Just make everyone pay like contributing members here

Pretty much the first thing he did was release the open letter to advertisers. And it talked about advertising. But yeah, nothing from any previous statements indicate they care about advertising. Lulz.

Of course he released a letter to advertisers. That's 97% of revenue currently so in the short term he needs advertisers to stick with Twitter. Very few people subscribe to Twitter Blue currently. My point is that he has to reduce reliance on advertising. If he's going to increase subscription revenue, advertising revenue will decline in a corresponding fashion because subscribers don't see ads.

Now whether he executes any of this correctly is an entirely different question. So far, this has been quite the train wreck.

    Facebook? LOL.

Here's a problem with turning your platform into a right wing cesspit, like Zuck did with Facebook.

It is literally never enough for these people. They'll always turn on you when the next great purge happens.

I mean, Zuck's just trying to make a buck to build a legless version of Second Life by becoming the unofficial MAGA/russian disinfo/antivax distribution platform above all platforms, and this is how they repay him.
