Here is a simple reason they may care: Brooklyn has the largest jewish community of any city in the world (including Israel). They also have a ton of other minorities. Brooklyn also has had history of racial violence. Nets home court advantage is already non-existent, so if that team, in fact, wants to win, then they have to unite communities living around their city/borough instead of dividing them.
