Does it rain every f***ing day in the Northeast? Between the Yankees and Phillies, how many game have been delayed or postponed? Feels like a lot.
Yes. The off day between Games 5 and 6 would be gone. This is actually a bad thing for the Phillies if Game 3 is postponed. I get the advantage of avoiding a Syndergaard start, but if they don't sweep those 3 games at home should they start Suarez, Nola, and Wheeler, they'd have no decent pitchers left to send out there on full rest in Games 6 or 7. Plus their bullpen would get no off days the rest of the way.
I was thinking that too. I know Nola and Wheeler would get to pitch game 4 and 5 but it would also help us because of our pitching depth.
It looks like they may get like 0.3 inches of rain tonight. Are they really going to call a game just for that with more bad weather on the way?
And last time I checked, Nola and Wheeler ain't exactly lights out this series. Plus Wheeler does better with an extra day of rest(although that clearly made no difference in Game 2).
It is strange how these crowds seem to think they are going to somehow make all the difference. We heard it before the ALDS too. Seattle fans had been waiting so long for a playoff game that they were going to cheer so loudly no one could hear themselves think. I'm pretty sure it was a non-factor. Every crowd is loud in the playoffs. And every team has spouted any number of cheating scandal related BS to the players while they are on the field. They've heard it all by this point. Do Phillie fans really think they are going to out-unclass Yankee fans?
crowds do have an impact. To what extent depends on who you ask but we hear the players all the time acknowledge the crowd especially in the postseason. Crowds enhance the nerves that are going through this entire postseason, both good and bad. Great plays are coupled with the great energy. Or on the flip said bad plays can be magnified by that same energy. Stros players love MM and the energy in the building during these times. That Seattle game went 18 innings of no score. I wouldn't say they were a non factor
Yes. If they really want to invoke fear, they'll have to get as depraved and violent as Dodger fans, even then the whole team loved playing at Chavez Latrine last year.
Crowds effect players. We saw it from your very own Astros in the ALCS in 17'. It was evident. This specific team is all very much battletested. Crowd won't be a factor for them.
I'm sure team get energized by their own fans and playing well as a result -- it's fun to please the crowd and hear them erupt, but I think by the time you get to the world series (and in the Astros case, have gone through a year+ of teams going hard at them because of 2017), no one is being negatively impacted by the crowd. They wouldn't be here if they were that fragile, mentally.
In the astros case, I think they've experienced enough (well the core obviously) to have minimal impact. They're battled tested well beyond years of experience in these types of runs and atmosphere. But we can't really say the same for other teams. Still with knowing how to handle this experience, human nature still comes into a little bit of play. Its really just about how you respond to it for the stros.
Yeah, this was my whole point. Everything I've seen online from their fans seems to indicate they are totally going to get into the Astros players' heads. It ain't happening. They've heard it all before. I suppose if they started throwing batteries and doing truly dangerous things it might make a difference. Hopefully they don't pull that crap.
Whether it's the crowds or not, *something* causes virtually every team to have better home records than on the road in basically all sports. If they ever get robot umpires, it will be interesting to see if we can determine if it has to do with ball/strike calls in baseball.
Make no mistake about it, a rain delay is AWFUL for the Astros, but only if the series goes 7 games. We would potentially have neither of McCullers or Javier available for Game 7 should the game not be played tonight.
True, but we have Garcia or Urquidy available on full rest(assuming both aren't used in relief prior to Game 7). That's better than anything the Phillies would have for Game 6(in which we'd have Framber on 5 days rest) or 7.
Hopefully this rain holds up and our boys kept those receipts for game 1. Retaliation is expected and we steal game 3.
Forecast says 80% chance of rain 8pm and beyond But thank goodness it didn't rain yesterday or currently
