Assuming there is a chance we lose out on the 1st pick in the draft, who would be the runner-up we need for this team?

Below is the latest mock draft from NBADraft.net on 10/19 -

Have the past few drafts just really sucked? We have the same few teams drafting high for the past few years, usually someone gets a difference maker and gets out of the top 4/5.

Teams are less dumb now. You don’t see teams draft one guy, immediately try to get to .500 by adding vets and being permanently mediocre (i.e davis pelicans, lebron cavs)

The last generational level draft was the Zion and Ja year.

This is the year it might be back at that level. Good thing we still suck ass.

The current Cavs team seems to have followed the previous model, and looks like a legitimate contender with their all-star guard out. I wouldn't call it dumb, seems like they have a very bright future.

If we do get Wemby, will Silas develop him properly?

(half joking, but kinda serious too :D )

The current cavs got multiple guys first, which is the smart way to go. The lebron cavs got lebron and then immediately started getting vets

difference is cavs arent just throwing out 10 rookies. They traded for allen, an all star and then mitchell another all star. And they still have a higher ceiling than us

This seems to be the case, there have not been any generational guys like Luka, Tatum, Ja, Zion etc, the last two drafts we have tanked. Realistically you need to get lucky in the right year, because there are not generational guys in every draft. This rebuild could take a decade if we don't hit on one of these. Magic, Piston, Kings, all seem to be in this same situation.

Yup this is the one. This draft is going to determine our next decade.

If you are in the East your future is automatically bright, the Cavs have been a decent organization, and I do not think Ohio is an attractive market at all..good thing they had Lebron, Kyrie, Mark Price

I think as long as you are either competitive or willing to pay someone, they will go to any market these days, everyone has access to private jets and the money to pay for them. A player of Donovan's caliber can reject a trade, and he seems like he was ok with landing in Cleveland, Kevin Love also re-signed without Lebron when he was still relatively good in his prime with a new max contract. Jarret Allen also chose to resign there when they were not very good either. Mobley looked like he wanted to avoid Houston and preferred Cleveland, as crazy as it seems, Cleveland looks like it has a better front office than Houston at this point, and that helps attracting and retaining talent.

All I am saying is that SA is a dump but players are still going to want to play there for obvious sports reasons and because of coaching, culture and management reasons.

Same as Cleveland to a minor degree, they aren't as decorated yet.
