It's so bizarre to me that people are more obsessed with the speculation over some gay affair or other crap than the fact that an 82 year old man was viciously attacked. It's as if they want to feel good justifying enjoyment over Pelosi's husband being attacked because he might have been gay in their minds. If you get off on that you are as dangerous as the people attacking others.

Debs, there is so much made up projection in what you write. Humor is a coping mechanism. Doesn't mean anyone is happy this happened to this gentleman. We always have threads where something happens and then someone posts something slightly inappropriate and says "too soon"...happens literally all the time. Doesn't mean one finds enjoyment in the person's suffering or wishes anything bad for him. Honestly.

And yes, whatever the backstory is, it goes without saying that the man shouldn't have been attacked, and everyone (I hope) hopes he fully recovers soon.

But 1) it's natural that people want to understand what really happened in such a high profile case with such bizarre details already and 2) at least one side, but realistically both sides of the usual political argument are trying to somehow make it the other side's fault (more so the Left is trying to make it the Republican's fault).

So calm down with the outrage.

    Both sides?

You are smarter than this … or perhaps you are not.

True, it's more the Left trying to make it the Republicans' fault. Thanks for pointing that out.

Why would anyone give credence to a tweet full of misinformation that has 30 engagements?

Those blog posts sound exactly like some of the stuff people in here post that I put on ignore. Right Wing indeed. I wouldn't doubt if a few of them are actual members of White Supremacist hate groups or Qanon. They seem to like that stuff.

Hmmn... I think I have this right here... a father of five children... 82 years old... married for nearly 60 years... calls 911 to report a man was planning to lie and wait for his wife, then remains on the line... a witness reports the man shouting "Where's Nancy!" several times... a broken glass patio door is discovered at the scene (where plenty of glass can clearly be seen INSIDE the home in photos)... a police report backs all of this up... but HE's apparently gay because a deranged man 40 years his junior, that just so happens to have a history of antisemitic and pro-MAGA rants under his belt, beats him in the head with a hammer in the presence of police???

    SMH. Sure.

Conservative folks on here always like to have faux indignation and anger at the "disgusting behavior" of the folks on the left. Same posters thinking it's humorous for conservatives folks to make a joke out of the incident. Imagine if it was your grandparents who just had a lunatic break in and attack them with a hammer.

That's always why i chuckle when i see folks have faux indigitation about the left's behavior b/c i know that the right can always top it.

Just hope the man has a speedy recovery, like any decent folk.

They almost all know better too. They demand to be talked to like persuadable independents just wanting to engage, but within two posts basically admit they traffic in this very same garbage and believe it. These people aren’t homeless heroin addicts living in parks throwing their poo at people… they can carry a normal conversation at a bar with you, work the same demanding job as you, and fool you for a bit.

It’s just a testament to how effective Rupert Murdoch and the other right wing billionaires who fund this propaganda and conspiracy theory outlets are. It’s everywhere and it’s going nowhere until this country has a serious reconning.

I get you, but I think adults with any human decency or compassion for others could stop from going into that rabbit hole. If you join into a group of people who enjoy or get amused off of the pain of others then you can become just like them over time if you participate or join in on that type behavior. I think some people are raised that way, when they have parents who act like that. They don't know how to treat others with decency. You can also see kids at young ages who bully others. If they have friends who laugh at them and join in, it encourages them even more. The vicious cycle can escalate into adulthood. Then, they raise their kids the same way.

I'll never forget a news story years ago where it showed a bunch of religious zealots holding signs outside the funeral of some family's son. The signs basically said stuff like gays go to hell and gays are sinners...etc.. That memory never left my head because I was horrified at how cruel and heartless that was. All I could think about was how that poor family lost their son to a hate crime, and these heartless people were out there bashing him for being gay.

I don't remember the details of the vicious beating, but I'll never forget those people with signs. Those so called Christians were more passionate about judging what they believed were the victim's sins than the facts that brutal savages had taken his life. They didn't seem to care that someone just lost their son and were suffering, and laying him to rest for the last time. I never could understand how people could be so heartless.

Several gullible idiots in this thread seem to have misplaced Occam's razor.

I am yet to see you ever criticize the left. If you could point me to a single post where you did that would be great

You’ve probably seen a previous post where I admitted that I come from a very evangelical Christian family. I think because of that I’m more in the camp of the GOT writer George RR Martin who writes about humans who are evil who do very heroic things and then there are heroic people who sometimes do very evil things.

My family members.. who I love mind you… have the capacity to be some of the most generous people helping out at the homeless shelter in Houston, and helping house people from Haiti years ago when the earthquake happened… and at the same time are living a daily life that is more or less dedicated to a brand right wing ideology that is at its core dedicated to cruelty and bigotry.

You look at a historical character like Lincoln too.. a earned hero of high morals and accomplished a great many positive things for not just the country but society as a whole. However he oversaw some dark moments too on his watch like mistreatments of Native Americans.

This is why maybe the focus should be on the ideology itself and the root causes. The big issue too is pressing the closet bigots to take a moral position instead of having it one way in their social life while being a complete Nazi online to fulfill your dark deeds in secret. How many Germans in 1939 really proudly claimed to be Nazi party supporters??? Had they as a society been in a different position to actually have to deal with the evil that they were profiting off of but never had to answer for up to that point, maybe things would have gone differently. Probably not but maybe.

We are a complex and flawed species to say the least. But I think we are our best selves when we are face to face with our moral dilemmas and not allowed to be evil in secret justified by whatever you are told is for the greater good and in public get the privilege of being able to be seen as a “good person.” What’s the old saying about sunlight and disinfectant? We must be able to press our fellow friends and family out in the open to where they truly cannot hide behind the internet or think that FoxNews talking points will save them from the shame of essentially being an evil person who occasionally does something heroic rather than a good and honorable person who occasionally does something terrible.
