LOL, don't get me started. I've lived in this here city for a goodly long time now, longer than I lived in H Town, and to see some posters make this hammer attack another opportunity to promote the FOX narrative about SF is just head-shakingly painful and counter-factual (as some of y'all noted, when comparing us to other cities and particularly the red-ruled central valley of Cali).

When I visit my pa and ma in Austin, all the other oldsters are like, "oh no," to me and the missus. "It must be so awful to live there. Do you even leave your house?" I've started taking a bunch of random banal pictures of our neighborhood, our daily walks, all the families out with strollers and dogs, all our local shops. Then I pull our my phone and let the oldsters scroll through. And you should see the shock on their faces. "Wow, looks nice." And yeah, it is pretty damned nice. And the city has problems too, for sure. I guess I could find the one starbucks that our local posters and faux are obsessed with, if I really wanted, but I don't. 99% of local coffee shops are chill and nice, doors wide open all the live long day. But my older TX relatives think I have to walk around in body armor or something, constantly dodging human poop piles. (I'm all over the city, and yeah, I've seen excrement, but it's not very common. I walk all over this city, and I mean all over it, and other that the occasional dog pile, nah.)

I look back and I think of my time living inside the loop: guns pointed at me twice, three break-ins to places I lived, and fast forward... zero cases of either living all over the damn place in SF, including near housing projects, and for many more years. I've seen a couple of weird and crazy things but rarely did I feel unsafe. I did have two car windows broken during my early SF years, that's true. The thing is, I still also love H-town, a lot, and would never want to dump on it. I encouraged a friend who has to move there for work recently and he was all depressed. I was like, no, you're going to love it and here's why.

You can say "what the hell is wrong with someone" when you look at a homeless person, but I'm more like "what the hell is wrong with someone" with they're obsessed with beating up on someone else's town. Lots of people live in these places, and unless you live there or at least spend a lot of time there versus youtube, you just have no clue.

Disclaimer: Salt Lake City is fair game, and Mad Max's trolling is like beautiful performance art. :D

    Okay, I'm out.

Do you think the current discourse coming from right wing politicians and media is also wrong when it comes to inspiring this type of violence?

I don't care what politicians say or attribute the actions of others to their speeches. I don't blame the attack on any right wing politician any more than I blame the 2020 riots on any left wing politician. Most politicians of all stripes are terrible. All of them say things to inflame the passions of their followers, which could lead to violence, but the responsibility for the violence lies with the perpetrator. Now, if some politician said go break into Nancy Pelosi's house and attack whoever you find there, that would be clearly an illegal call for direct violence.

The manufactured and false narrative of SF as a hell-hole is really bizarre. I'm not really sure what purpose it serves from a political strategy. What do they gain from that?

This is great and all. Thank you for saying it.

However I want to know what the actual plan is from Republicans that don’t actually want this to be part of their coalition and calculation, to rid itself of the extremism that is the driving force behind the violence.

So far I only see that the plan is to just hold your nose and still vote for the guy who these QAnon people worship as a savior messiah figure. I’m just tired of the thoughts and prayers type of responses and want to see action from the people I respect and that know better.

Like what is the plan here? I can’t do anything from where I sit. I don’t support, fund, or vote for Republicans. Maybe you don’t either if we take your word for it, but you at least are plugged into the right wing ecosphere.

    What is the plan??

I don't know the exact motive and all details. I hear the guy posted right-wing conspiracy theory stuff. He was apparently also an illegal alien from Canada, a member of the Green Party, lived in a hippie community, was a former nudist and communist Castro supporter.

So please excuse me while I wait for the police to give us more details, rather than being 100% sure this was purely a politically motivated event rather than a mental health issue, or a mix of both. I just don't know yet.

In the meantime, I hope Mr. Pelosi fully recovers and...

P.S.: I also hope nobody caught monkey pox in the course of this bizarre event.

I disagree -- it's cynically smart, further dividing Americans and (like in my case) family members, all to promote an anti-Democratic-party narrative. "See, if you vote for those guys, hammer attacks and drug deals outside your front door -- and even POOP -- will take over your communities." It totally works on the elders around my parents who are sick of Trump and were horrified by Jan. 6 but they're like "well what else can we do? We don't want to end up like SF!"

On messaging, Dems tried (with less determination) to do a similar thing with the budget wasteland of Kansas after all their ridiculous tax-and-spending slashing experiments. Look what happens! And at least that was data-driven, but the GOP totally understands humans better: people don't care about data and are largely unable to handle data, but a video clip of a different-looking person misbehaving in a Starbucks is pure gold for influencing people.

It's too bad we can't have reasoned discussions about these topics, because there's lots of legit complaining and praising to do about various SF leftwing political experiments. Oh well. Just the wrong century for that.

Oh come on @B-Bob - boarded up shops around Union Square, aggressive homeless people and criminals, a lawless Tenderloin area are NOT stories made up by Republicans. I'm sure there are parts of the city much less affected, a friend of mine lives on Uranus Terrace (lol) and it's ok there.

But stop acting like these problems don't exist, and like they are not a direct result of how the city has been governed.

A friend of mine who has his office on Jessie street and used to always park in a garage on Sutter has been avoiding going into the city whenever he could in recent years - because of all these issues.

He lives in Marin. Good for you if you live in a safe neighborhood as well and if living in your ideological bubble is making you believe "this is fine", but no, it's not.

Ssn Francisco is a unique, beautiful city, but it does have issues with crime, drugs and homelessness, and they are a direct result of leftist politics.

And his son has more integrity and intelligence then you will ever have. Unlike you he presents his arguments intelligently.

Two gay people in a fight. To be fair I would probably be gay too if the other option was Nancy Pelosi

Why is it now that all of a sudden you are having so much more political violence currently than before?
