I agree in general, but having watched the games, some of that is on the refs. It will come for him eventually.

Ok
Yes, but I've noticed every time Kenyon, Tari, Jabari, Garuba set screens.....they get called for fouls. We desperately need to teach KPj, Green, JC to time it so the screener gets set. That means show one way and then go towards that set screener. Why our PnR also sucks. Need Bruno back....won't fix everything but would help. I'm guessing Favors refused to show up and WCS is not fit.
Surprised at the PNR numbers. I thought all we did was run ISO . This is such a systemic breakdown that I fear it could stunt all the players on this team if allowed to go on for too long. Silas is used to having that top 5 guy who you can give the ball to and then scroll Tik Tok for most of a game. He actually has to coach here and its not looking good. His ability to maximize talent and develop guys who may not be generational talents is definitely in question.
I've watched all the games except the Milwaukee game and yesterday's vs the Jazz. I can say: 1) we don't get away with moving screens like the Warriors do. 2) Bruno seems to be the only one that gives us that vertical spacing/ lob threat and he has been gone since about 11 minutes against the Grizz in game two. 3) Malik Beasley guarding Jalen Green gave him trouble. People say Jalen didn't touch the ball in the 4th of game #4 vs Utah.....but I was watching Beasley guarding Green 30 feet out while being screened and Beasley was making Green uncomfortable. Body language was more like.....someone else take the ball. Probably an easier matchup somewhere else. Goes with what I want......if Green has the tough assignment then I want KPj or Jabari or Sengun to cook their mismatch. Green is still raw. He will learn to set up Beasley type defenders better and utilize the screens to his benefit in the future. In Hoosiers coach asked that kid to stick to that shooter like gum the whole game. He wanted to know what flavor he was? I need Jalen to scrape the gum off his shoes by use of those screens.
Doing more with these guys than just standing them at the 3 point line with their arms out waiting for the pass would be nice too.
Oh yeah, but without Sengun and Tate most of our guys will dribble the ball off their feet or punt it into the stands. That's why people want a true point guard. Break down the defense and spoon fed two foot layups. As if the defense is just going to let us. Many of our guys need that ball placed on a tee. Bruno could at least receive the short roll at the free throw line and pass from there. Act as a safety valve.....Sengun can but lacks the explosiveness to sky to the rim. But both would help right now. Tate can but was rusty last night
@Verbal Christ On a side note, did you see Robert Williams was suspended? Hard to find angels for the NBA
Silas said afterwards that the isolations lost the game. He said isolations had worked in the previous game and the guys just wanted to keep going with that, but the Jazz had adjusted and took them away... he said they started to figure it out better in the 2nd half (or something to that effect -- I didn't watch the 4th quarter, so... *shrug).
[ Teams key on Jalen Green when he has the ball now, you can see the off ball defenders pinch back and close up the driving lanes when he has the ball. That's why he should try to push transition instead of KPJ walk-up. Like i said KPJ and the Rockets started off well with this but the last few games have regressed horribly. I honestly would love if D'antony came back abd made us into a hardcore 7 seconds or less team
We have some players that have specific roles like spot shooters. Do we really want these guys dribbling and driving? Mathews? Jabari? Kenyon? Garuba? (Not a Spot Shooter) Tari? Jabari can every once in a while in a pinch.....but inconsistent as a rookie. Reputation coming out of college is spot shooter....he needs to earn that in greater than 3 games. Kenyon can receive the pass inside of FT line distance and rise up..... but to dribble? Probably a turnover or offensive foul (same). Tari, like Jabari can dribble.....but more than likely a charge or lost ball if asked to do at a greater extent. Just a rookie, needs more practice/game time to display during 4th quarter. Guys that can dribble and give you some, "Pitch and Catch then dribble but may kick the ball into the stands as well: Josh Christopher.....sitting because he is acting truly with tunnel vision. Eric Gordon....better; but has had a reputation of dribbling the ball off his foot Our best options Sengun.....sick, has missed last two games Jae Sean Tate.....has missed 4 of the 5 games G-Force.....Green is still learning Porter.......KPj is still like a student pilot getting the license. Still logging in flight hours. ___________________________ So in essence, the Rockets have played half the games without two of their perspective ball handlers in Tate and Sengun. Been relegated to mostly stop and pop guys. Yes Green, Porter, JC, EG can facilitate......but the rest are most catch and shoot players. We can stop and pop anywhere on the court; but when Tari, Jabari, Mathews, Kenyon, Garuba, Boban, Nix miss a wide open 10 footer.....what are people going to say? CF's are grilling KPj, Green, JC for missing 2's, open or covered. Jabari was criticized coming out of college by Banchero fans as a bad 2-pt shooter. I'm ok with playing PnPop with Jabari catching near the FT line... but others are going to rag on him if he misses any. That's a given. ____________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________ So getting back to your statement: bringing back Sengun and Tate will solve many ills. Alleviate some pressure. Eventually the Rockets will play teams that are not ranked top 13. Portland presents Dame and Anfernee Simons.....I don't believe Norm Powell is there any more. Not sure they have a Malik Beasley type to give either Green or Porter trouble. Gary Payton is out. If Nurkic is playing....we need to attack him. I hope Sharpe plays....I picture him as offense only and matador defender defensively. Shake n bake for time Green and Porter. _____________________________________________________ _____________________________________________________
I love stats. LOVE them. But they don’t tell you much until you have a reasonable sample size. Even still, they can help you identify trends and things to watch for along the way, so bring them on!
I hear him. It just makes me a little confused when I see everyone out there trying to play the same way. I want to believe that Silas knows what he's doing and can teach the game and the strategy behind running certain offenses vs certain defenses and so on. If these guys are doing what they want and not listening to the coach then he's lost the locker room. If I saw a more intent offense with distinguishable concepts I might be inclined to agree with Silas, but the offense as a whole is basically welcoming the hero ball without offering much else in terms of movement, screens and misdirection and married to that crappy 5 out. Team is still terrible at setting screens except for maybe Bruno. They're just not meshing well. The chemistry is not there and force feeding the same stuff whether by accident or not doesnt strike me as a coach who thinks he's on the hot seat. As crappy as it sounds it feels more and more each game that they're tossing the season hoping to get one more high pick AND THEN they're going to try.
