They didn’t show up yesterday either so effectively the two Republicans have defunded the police in what Ramsey has called a “crime pandemic”.

Imagine not showing up for work for two months as an elected official.

Now imagine complaining and blaming crime on the Democrats when you broke quorum so they couldn’t vote to increase the law enforcement budget.

Imagine if voters who check the box for Cagle this week actually understood or cared about anything I just typed.

What a world we live in….

I always thought of the Texas cyclone as being 'more scary'

I appreciate mac's tenacity but let's not get ahead of ourselves here jocking a guy that charges 29% interest to poor hispanics in the bad part of town. No bueno

He doesn't sell furniture he sells super high interest credit applications.

On a side note is op Michael berry? @SuraGotMadHops

Lots of unhealthy interest in Lina. Maybe too much cold beer in montrose?

So if Mealer wins and Democratic Commissioners decline to show up to pass the budget, Republicans will definitely be hard on Mealer for defunding the police right? right?

Same, Lina gonna lose. @Phillyrocket nailed it. Voters don't understand, they go off advertising and manufactured (paid-for) narratives. GOOD LUCK

I think Hidalgo is going to lose also. One of the biggest reasons she won in the first place was due to straight-ticket voting and riding the Pro-Beto waive, and they placed her mid-down ticket too. The financial backing and misinformation is effective, but she also couldn't swing the backing of the Chron, which is pretty fair imo. She has handled the corruption charges towards her staff poorly, and strategically messed up crime responses. And yes, I'm aware Cagle and Ramsey are liars who are actually defunding police themselves in order to score political points.

Once Mealer wins, she'll have a honeymoon period, but the systemic problems causing crime aren't going to suddently disappear. I think Hidalgo's name recognition can help her in future offices along with better strategy management. But who knows, maybe her targeted campaigning wins the parts of Harris County where she is strong. I don't have faith that either any County commissioner could actually do much other than spend money that the federal government gives them through convoluted sharing programs.

The money will stop paying to publicize it. And you wont see Abbott + Patrick touring the big cities, doing press conferences, slandering the Judge + police funding. If a real problem emerges? That's just the border.

    GOOD LUCK. SUCKERS

I used to live in Uptown (River Oaks really) and would see him at different places LATE at night (like Menchie's froyo) and it was CLEAR he had indeed been working his ass off all day. Hard worker for sure. If that's what you like - gratz.

But I would rather BURN MYSELF than walk into a Gallery Furniture, wtf.

For one I don't finance furniture. AND my pieces are either vintage or mostly CB2 (or similar). West Elm. GALLERY FURNITURE? Bro, I am not a 64 year old suburban grandpa with no taste. Or a 34 year old Katy, TX divorced dude living in a condo. It's not about money either it's about aesthetic. I have TASTE, bro. GALLERY FURNITURE? I am deeply offended.

It's also a MID look that H-Tine's rich people (Tilman/Mattressboi) are so into gambling. I like to gamble. But... such a low bar. Sleazy. Slum lord vibes.

    Question....

Does everyone really know what Defund the police actually mean???

It doesn't mean what it sounds like... Unfortunately, police have more responsibilities now then they did back in the Adam 12 days....

We actually need more police out on the streets.. Especially the highways...

We really need neighborhood police so HPD can just handle serious stuff like murders and large scale theft, drugs, stuff that requires helicopters. Less responsibility to HPD.

Neighborhoods need their own recognized faces to police the package theft, fireworks, car theft, vandalism - the stuff that happens all of the time. The stuff that can be prevented. A few stings in a neighborhood would drastically mitigate package theft. HPD aint got time for that ****. Not sure how police can prevent something like murder in private places.

If I ask my cop friend to help with a fireworks complaint or someone bashing car windows - he's like yeah, no chance. 5hrs minimum. C'mon, fam.

I agree with that. Police has been tasked with too many tasks that require too many different skills.

I learned recently that ambulance with trained medical personnel wasn't a thing until the 1960s. Before then, police and funeral homes were responsible for driving an injured person to the hospital in a medical emergency. Obviously that was less than ideal compared to actually having trained personnel. Taking that responsibility of emergency transport from the police to EMS is 'defunding the police', but I doubt anyone would want to go back to the old way.

I think of defunding the police as taking some responsibilities that we've piled to cops and spreading to other more specialized services. Some funds may be diverted away from current police forces, but they're responsible to fewer things now.

Agreed, I never took it as "LESS", just distribute it out to actually add the correct type of help and take pressure off the cops on things there not trained for. People love their soundbites, and it took off to make it sound like people want to just take money away from the cops.......now the term sucks, I will grant anyone that because it doesn't do what it sounds like it will do, whoever said that first should have his/her mouth washed out with soap....and not the good stuff, got to be LAVA

2022 will be remembered as the year Houston sank two Judges.
One of them plays for the Yankees.

Crime will always be in the local news and always be flooding the stories on FB and Nextdoor,, used by old people who vote in the midterms.
