I’m in construction and these games will fall during our design schematic and CD calls. A lot of “I’m sorry what was the question” will be going on with my attention…..
What if the Red Sox decided to trade Devers like they did Mookie? He us a poor defensive 3B but could probably handle 1B and is an MVP calibur bat. He is a free agent after 2023 would Luis Garcia be too much to give up for him? Or do they prefer 3-4 prospects? that is if Boston resets and plays for 2024.
While not likely, it is outside the box speculation which some of us like. https://www.si.com/mlb/astros//opin...ston-astros-following-sale-los-angeles-angels
This is FANTASY, so don't get your panties in a twist. Trout speculation because of the owner putting the team on the market would also bring 1 year of Ohtani into play. Trout's just under an 8 year $300M commitment and Ohtani is a 1 year $30M commitment. 2023 AAV would be a little over $67M. Now add about $20M for Abreu. 1B Abreu R 2B Altuve R 3B Bregman R SS Pena R LF Alvarez L CF Trout R RF Tucker L DH Ohtani L Adding a left handed batter might make the lineup interesting. But I wouldn't care about a weak hitting catcher if I'm running these 8 guys out there.
When thinking about off season changes, don't overlook trades for players approaching free agency after this season's crop. The Astros have often been ahead of the FA curve via trades. Signing Judge would be a FA move with a splash. But Trading for Arenado with 6 years left on his contract would also be a splash move. The only problem would be who moves to 1B. These are certainly unlikely, but moves like these have been some of our best moves.
Goldschmidt is only under contract for two years ($26M AAV). No need to change positions in the infield. Not likely but they DO need SP. 1B Goldschmidt 2B Altuve 3B Bregman SS Pena World Class Infield.
Goldschmidt would be extremely interesting and make this team next level offensively. It would take a king's ransom to get him, not only because of how good he is, but because the Cardinals expect to win now and their fans expect to win now. They also don't really have anyone to replace him. Donovan is more of a utility type and Yepez had a solid rookie year but is not good defensively and viewed as more of a bench type player ( like McCormick) not an everyday starter. Not having a 1B in their top 20+ prospects also hurts this. Ok make that an emperor's ransom but let's take a swing at it: I think they would hold out for Brown or Javier, but let's say they are willing to take both Garcia and Urquidy instead. They would expect a couple of top prospects. A pitcher and a high ceiling hitter. Let's say Yainer Diaz ( possible replacement) and Jayden Murray. And just because they are not shopping him and have no reason to trade him unless the offer simply can't be refused, the Astros sweeten the deal with a 5th player like Cristian Gonzalez. That MIGHT get their attention. 2 young proven starting pitchers that are not aces but dependable mid-rotation types that haven't hit arbitration yet. A solid prospect for the future rotation. A top hitting prospect who could potentially fill the hole at first. A high ceiling infield prospect who is a bit behind his experience level in progress but could be a future starting shortstop. What do you guys think? Is it fair? Should either team do it? I think St.Louis still holds out for someone like Javier, Brown, or maybe a bigger package of 4+ top 5-7 prospects ( Brown, Diaz, Barber, Lee) or no deal.
I don't know, but it would be fun to contemplate. And it won't happen without thinking it might be possible.
Maybe if you just look at money and control But there is 0 chance St Louis trades him for less than the package I outlined. If your team was weak in starting pitching, would you trade Jose Altuve for Ranger Suarez? Alex Bregman for George Kirby? Both of them are stars on high $$ contracts with 2 years remaining for a young starting pitcher with lots of excess value based on service time, contract, and performance potential. FYI in all 3 cases the pitchers are MUCH more valuable in the models.
This is one Trade simulator. Goldschmidt 36yo 10.8 23 $26M, 24 $26M. Arenado 32yo 7.5 23 $30.5M, 24 $30.5M, 25 $30.5M, 26 $30.5M, 27 $30.5, 28 $30.5M Total 18.3 Diaz 14.4 Maton 0 Urquidy 3.6 Total 18.0 Trade Validated
Yeah I saw that too It's the same simulator that says Altuve is only worth 4.6 And Bregman is. NEGATIVE 2.8 So let's offer some team Alex Bregman - 2.8 Lance McCullers - 28.8 Chas McCormick 31.3 Luke Berryhill 0.2 Kenedy Vorona 0.1 Equals 0 Giving them to another team for nothing is a fair trade according to that simulator. It's worthless ( and I used it and posted Trade options from it before)
