Is it fair to make it easier to vote in red counties and harder to vote in blue counties after a natural disaster hits the state?

To me, fair would be to make it as easy, safe and secure as possible for every able bodied voter to be able to vote. Wouldn't you agree? Isn't that what a great leader of a state would do? Show concern about the voting experience of every able bodied voter in their state and make it as safe and easy as possible for those voters to be able to cast their ballot? That's one of the actions I think a great leader would do if they had the power to.

Why hasn't DeSantis done that? Do you think his actions might be politically motivated to suppress votes from voters that disagree with him? Dare I say it, he's doing whatever is legally possible and in his best interest to CANCEL THEIR VOTE and to silence a U.S. citizen's legal right to cast a ballot? I thought free speechers cared about all voices being heard and accounted for especially when it comes to voting?

So you already have an excuse to not accept him winning the election?

You guys sound a lot like the MAGA crowd, to be honest. Just from the other side.

Seeing how unhinged the Crist supporters were during the debate...seeing your responses here...the only thing missing is some of you marching towards the Capitol in Tallahassee after you lose...probably that part won't happen because Crist is not a charismatic leader who would call for that...but the tendencies are there.

Just as intolerant and unwilling to accept defeat and reality as the MAGA folks.

I think deb and myself understand DeSantis is likely to win. I just think you're incapable of admitting that making it easier to vote in red counties while harder to vote in blue counties is wrong. Why are you incapable of admitting as much?

I don't care about Florida. As for a Presidential or Texas election of course I would. I always have. I will accept the vote of the people when results come in. But, if the GOP election deniers being put in place start decertifying votes AFTER the results come in, and change the vote I won't. It's the GOP that needs to accept the vote, and stop trying to take power by stealing an election like Trump tried to do. The question is, would you side with election deniers and those trying to decertify votes to steal an election?

I had nearly don't care about DeSantis unless he runs for President. As for AOM or anyone else incapable of admitting that, about voting, good luck. They like it that way. AOM can't vote anyway. LOL

No. As I mentioned, I don't have a vote, just an opinion. I have been consistent in saying that what Trump did on January 6th was very wrong, and that he should be in jail. So, clearly, I don't support the MAGA crowd that thinks the election was "stolen".

I'm just expecting the same from you guys. If DeSantis wins, fair and square, you will have to accept it as well.

The thing is you're acting like GA is the only state that has less of these places now. Many states have transitioned away over the years.

because it was a temporary measure in response to the pandemic. you act like there needs to be a station on each corner. besides, Georgia law states if 20% of registered voters in a precinct sign a petition against a polling location's closure (such as in Lincoln County, GA), then it'll stay open. but again, answer to the huge voter turnout right now breaking records. perhaps the current polling locations are in convenient locations for most GA voters despite what outside media has folks believing.

do you have data on which polling locations closed and how it has now made things less convenient? what if during the pandemic there were two polling places across the street from each other, but now there is only one and it was possibly moved one block down. how much more inconvenient is that really?

these and the "transgendering kids" issue are the things people are looking past what national news is trying to say because on the ground level things are playing out completely different. people are

an article aimed at playing to emotions, but the facts are the new laws did not make it more restrictive. In what world is adding days to early voting and extending hours restricting voting? like I said record turnout right now so the numbers speak for themselves.

Again! No matter who runs in the GOP that loses will be not accepted by the election deniers and GOP supporters willing to decertify votes. It's the new GOP mantra. Deny the truth, challenge every state that voted them out, and stall, stall, stall the process while projecting lies and propaganda.

You have so far dodged answering the question whether you would accept DeSantis winning, and him delivering on what he promised.

I know it is painful for you, but that's how democracy works. You can't scream bloody murder towards the other side and then dodge the question whether you will accept defeat in an election if it's your side that loses.

Dude, I answered your question. I said I would accept the vote of a President or Texas politician after election results come in like I always have. What I won't accept is the GOP going in and decertifying the votes to gain power. I believe in the vote of the people, and not some dirty tactics to overturn and steal the vote by power hungry politicians who don't believe in Democracy.

Again, why would I want to vote for politicians that make my commute and ease of access to cast a ballot harder to do for concerns over fraud during the election from which there was none? That makes no sense. How is placing polling stations in locations where it's harder to vote than in prior elections making voting safer and more secure? How does that protect the integrity of election results? You downplay Republican tactics a lot and don't even read articles from which I've snipped the part you raise questions over that you treat as though they're rhetorical.

Why wouldn't voters want voting to be made easier and more accessible to them? Why would YOU personally be okay with making it more restrictive?

And in what world is tossing out 87,000 people's ability to vote okay?

Personally speaking, I would think if you truly believed you had the best policies for your respected elected office and could get those policies passed, you would campaign on your merits and trust that your staff and policies will be good enough to get you enough votes to win. Shouldn't it be the politicians that bring forth the best ideas and have the best staff capable of making their ideas a reality if elected into office that determines the victor of an election and not any other methods to suppress voter turnout?

Like I would think if you're a Republican and you fundamentally believe that your philosophies on how to govern are best practice, you would trust that your ideas and the people that make up your party, alone are enough to win an election.

To me, I view it as an admittance of weakness that their ideas aren't popular with the general public and that having to resort to any tactics at all that could suppress even a single vote tells me they're not confident enough in their own philosophies to win on merit alone.

Why should I want people whose philosophies on governance that they don't even believe in enough to win on their own merit to remain in political office? If you can't even believe the bullshit you peddle to others is enough to win you an elected office position, why should I want you to have any power whatsoever that may give you an advantage over a better candidate that actually does believe what they peddle? That makes no sense to me.

Yeah I'm calling BS on this, especially the one that says a woman in Gwinnett County would have to drive an hour to a polling location WITHIN Gwinnet County?? Yeah freaking right!

Literally impossible in normal traffic conditions, even with the crappy road layout in the ATL area, for it to take an hour getting to any of these from any Gwinnett County neighborhood.

edit: here is the link. they have all corners of the county covered and points in between. where does she live that it'll take an hour? makes no sense: https://www.gwinnettcounty.com/web/...ctions/absenteevoting-civilians/advancevoting

Furthermore it should be noted Georgia has on average the fifth smallest county sizes in the nation.

Given that other states can and do have 24 hour voting, why can't Georgia do it? What's the reason Scarface?

If Republican politician ideas were so popular and truly the best you'd think the wider population of residents in that state would agree with them right? You would think they would want those voters input received. Why not Scarface? Again, they don't even believe in themselves enough to just make it easy for every able bodied citizen in their state to vote.

Despite having the 5th smallest county size, they're still big enough to fit in at least 107 voting stations no problem. I don't think small geographical size is a legitimate reason. They could have more than 107 voting stations even. Why not?

this is a very lame argument. do all 50 states have 24 hour drop-off box locations? I don't see a problem with having 24 hour drop-off locations, but unless all states have that it's weak to point at Georgia and say why don't they have it. particularly when they're experiencing record breaking turnout. seems it doesn't matter.

county sizes are also very important because these locations go by county. 107 voting stations in Gwinnett county at 430 square miles is different than (just as an example) Harris County, TX at nearly 1,800 square miles. people do not have to travel as far because Georgia counties are tiny, so the polling locations won't be an hour away like the article (falsely) tried to claim. In many ways, they function as little cities (with actual cities within them), especially around metro Atlanta.

Why WOULDN'T YOU want 24 hour voting out of sheer convenience if it's possible and safe to do? The argument strikes me as saying the original iPhone was a cutting edge tech smart phone of it's time. We shouldn't ever upgrade past it because it's good enough. It gets the job done. It makes calls. It has 3G wireless. It has apps. What more could you ask for? We shouldn't ever consider better options that are already available and implemented in other states that still have safe and secure elections.

Why would I want to vote for politicians that make my life harder, in this instance voting, citing archaic voting practices Pre-Covid as good enough to revert back to?

You saying it's good enough as it is and be grateful for what's available doesn't seem genuine to me when we know for a fact it could be a lot better. So why not choose better?

Isn't the purpose of voting for a politician the idea that they will empower and improve upon the community I live in and share with others to which they wield greater power over than an un-elected everyday citizen that simply wishes to vote? Isn't voting for politicians that inconvenience myself and my community's ability to vote, a vote against my own and my community's self interest? Why reward that and accept being told what's provided now is good enough when we know what's truly available is something better?

Voting in red states is like eating that nasty pizza that comes from school cafeterias. Sure it's edible, has a nutritional count and works I guess. But then again if I had the choice of eating a Margherita pizza from an Italian Chef, I'd go with the better option right? Wouldn't you?

Why vote for cafeteria pizza? Why do that on purpose no less and take a public platform that says cafeteria pizza is good enough? Why choose this hill to die on that making voting easier for everyone isn't worth investing in when we already have other models of other states doing things that can be done in the state of Georgia that would in fact make voting easier and more convenient for everybody, Democrat, Independent and Republican alike. How is that not a nonpartisan thing to support?

You just quoted me saying I dont have a problem with 24 hour drop box locations, so not sure what the bolded is for. But why are you only holding Georgia to this? Is it because it is a Republican state? Why arent you calling out the Democrat leaning states without early voting? Thats how you make it bipartisan.

I'd support whatever legislation federally that would make voting easier and more convenient while still being safe and secure if it would get passed. You'd have to vote for politicians that enact legislation to do that though. Not re-elect officials that create legislation intended to suppress like the Republicans in Georgia and any other states, both Democratic and Republican alike, who create legislation to make voting harder and more restrictive.

Just to say that tricks have been played by both sides. Gerrymandering has been done by Democrats as well.

Because Georgia Republicans saw the state turning purple and passed laws to take away access.
