It isn’t in reference to puberty blockers. It is in reference to some of their other positions and some of the foolish decisions they have made that have cost them a lot of votes. As for puberty blockers and surgical intervention, it is a very complicated issue and isn’t as black and white as either side seems to believe. A lot of trust and responsibilities are being put on therapists and doctors and parents and there are going to be a decent number of times someone fails. I think that not acknowledging that transgender people exist and are just as valuable as anyone else is bigotry and not in the best interest of society. However, puberty blockers have real physical and other consequences and shouldn’t be down played like some are. Likewise, we need to be aware of the high suicide rates of those people with gender issues and consider that in any decisions made.
You are a lawyer. The doctors and therapists dedicate their lives to this. They are the who determines if it is safe. Why are we pretending that a child or parent be like "my kid is transgender now give me dem puberty blockers" and it just happens willy nilly? No that's not how it goes. And stop strawmanning. Who is saying that this is a black or white issue? We understand that it takes a lot of time of observation from professionals where these methods are last resorts. Are we like trying to sell puberty blockers over the counter or something? Is that some agenda that I don't know about? Yes puberty blockers shouldn't be just handed out willy nilly the moment some boy tries on mom's dress. None of these issues arose in good faith. This issue coming to the limelight is not some natural grassroots movement of sincerely concerned people. It's a targeted haarrasment campaigns to specifically make trans people shunned from society. The best way to do it is by doing the whole "think of the children" shtick.
I don’t have a problem with someone born a male, but identifies as a woman being dressed as a woman and reading to children. There are transsexuals and non-binary people all over the place and they are part of society and are not criminals so I have no issue with it. Having kids go to a sexualized drag show as little children is different to me.
I have heard lots of people on both sides act as if this is a black or white issue. I have heard proponents of it understate the physical impact of delaying puberty. It isn’t as easy as simply taking a pill. Likewise I have heard those that are against it act as if schools and popular media is turning children into transsexuals. The reality is that there are transsexuals out there, and always have been and there are young people that are being saved by societal acceptance and the ability to transition and be accepted. On the other end we are talking about very young people and are impressionable and they physically are developing and changing. Soft science professionals are not infallible. Not all therapists are equal and not all therapists have the same mind set. We see the same with lawyers and even to a degree with doctors. Not all of these kids are getting equal quality of therapy or help. As I have said many times, this issue is a loser for democrats in 2022 and 2024. However, I am more in line with the position of the Democrats on this issue as many Republicans want to go back to how it was before, which means suicides and depression. However, it is difficult to have a fully honest conversation on this topic like it is abortion.
Medical professionals are definitely not infallible. But I'm going to trust their experience along with organizations like: American Academy Child and Adolescent Psychiatry American Academy of Dermatology American Academy of Family Physicians American Academy of Nursing American Academy of Pediatrics American Academy of Physician Assistants American College Health Association American College of Nurse-Midwives American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists American College of Physicians American Counseling Association American Heart Association American Medical Association Amerlcan Medical Student Association American Nurses Association American Osteopathic Association American Psychlatric Assoclation American Psychological Association American Pubillc Health Assoclation And more. And the people on the extreme who make it a black and white issue aren't the people in this expertise group. That's all I care about. A parent can't just come in and tell them their kid needs puberty blockers Also this is a GOP issue. Not a Democrat one. The Democrats here are the respondents and the GOP here are the ones b****ing about it and making it a campaign issue. Like sure we can ignore when right wingers start targeting a group of people because defending them is not good for midterms but don't pretend this was some Democrat issue that was spammed and people got tired of it. No, this was a targeted harassment campaign by political actors to make sure society doesn't accept transgender people by using "save the children" as their weapon. That is all that this is.
The fact that the vast majority of trans discussions in this message board start by right wingers creating a thread about them should tell anyone that this isn't a "Democrat issue" outside the fact that they respond to right wing rhetoric. This is a pure GOP right wing issue that got put on the limelight. Same with CRT. If you want to make an argument to ignore the rhetoric about trans people, the. So be it. But don't pretend this is some Democrat key platform issue they brought to the limelight themselves.
All of those organizations supporting trans rights isn’t surprising and based on what we know is likely the proper position to take. However that really isn’t relevant to what I am saying. A lot of trust is being given to individual therapists and psychologists and there is a wide range of abilities when it comes to therapy through psychologists and therapists. It is as much an art as it is a science. They all also have their own biases and strengths and weaknesses. The quality of care being received varies. Also it is as much a Democratic issue as it is one for Republicans. The difference is that Republicans think they can do very well misrepresenting the issue or pandering by holding up the extreme of the Democratic Party as representative of the whole party.
Personally I don't trust stuff like this on these news shows where they find these "focus groups", just like I don't trust it when reporters go "into the streets" asking people questions because they choose who will fit their narrative the best before placing the segment on TV. I bet the Democrats on FTN had coherent in-depth responses, but they chose the Republican who didn't know much. These opinion shows aren't the best place to find the pulse of how groups of people think. The D&D is honestly a better place to see what people are thinking and how knowledgeable both sides are. There are a few other mediums where both sides can voice their opinions freely (so not reddit). I agree both parties misrepresent the issue. I'll say Republicans will have an easier time swaying the masses in their direction because they have ads that are easy to hit home. I just saw one where there was a female track team running and then a man appears and starts to break free clearly leading, so the women stop running. during the ad they were talking about biological men participating in women's sports and how it affects scholarships, etc. My mother-in-law is a HUGE liberal and when she saw that, she said "huh" in a "that's interesting" kind of way. we talked about how some schools discussed creating an "anybody" league in addition to men and women leagues. We have just really jumped the shark. I know someone (another huge liberal) whose 16 year old granddaughter changed her name (informally for now) to "MonkeyKing" and switched up her entire style. she does not want to be called by her given name. Only Monkey King or MK. how is this even sustainable? are we going to call this a phase like dressing in goth? we need to be getting to the root of the issue, which for a lot of folks is mental. This person told me their granddaughter has always had body conscious issues and kind of a loner. The solution to me would have been to find a therapist, not push this MK nonsense. There is a reason why the trans community has such high suicide rates, especially post-op. There are other underlying issues that a gender change would not fix and in fact could make a lot worse. for this issue I feel democrats need to acknowledge that a lot of this is just mental health, and also that many men are using the trans community almost as a troll to try getting some women's rights themselves. they also need to acknowledge how much money big pharma is making from this. billions upon billions. always follow the money because then you'll see the true motives. just like the name change I mentioned, I don't think this is sustainable at all.
Hmmmmmm...I must have missed where he said anything about mutilating children. It's only 12 seconds and I watched it 3 times. Would you please point me to where he said anything about mutilating children?
Weird...I missed the word surgery as well. Please point out at what second the word surgery was used. Why are you saying that he said things he didn't?
Actually the Democrat in that focus group gave surprising answers for a Democrat including that she felt too much was being done for immigrants. I brought this up in another thread and another poster from the Right linked to a tweet with a clip of that member in the focus group giving that response. Do you have a link that there are more suicides post op for trans people than pre-op? Also yes trans people do tend to be depressed a lot but not feeling you fit into your body and in a society that largely questions your motives that would likely make you feel pretty depressed.
"gender-affirming care" includes puberty blockers and surgery, but it's a benign-sounding euphemism that obfuscates what we know is happening which is why proponents use it instead of the more descriptive terms that would raise objections
That's an opinion and you can have that but that isn't factually mutilation anymore than gettting any other surgery is mutilation. You're just inserting opinion to make it much more objectionable.
Gender affirming care MAY include puberty blockers and surgery. GAC begins with sessions with medical professionals (both physical and mental health). In the USA it rarely ends with surgery prior to age 18. What do you have against medical and psychological doctors consulting with parents and minors about GAC? Because that is the primary focus of GAC for children.
