Garuba is a weird player that requires a better head coach to be used properly.

If we are going to play Steve/Cat/Cato ISO ball with a bullied substitute teacher as our head coach, we will never see him shine.

I promise I'm not being snarky when I ask this, but how would an effective coach use Garuba?

That's true - Kenneth Faried at least could dunk and block shots unlike the poor man's Ryan Bowen.

Sengun only fans might get mad but I am down if coach silas wants a defensive center in the form of usman starting if he somehow finds sengun defense lacking.

I been liking usman defensive efforts

    Spain.

Ball movement, player movement, off-ball screens, big man used as an offensive hub, and defense is prioritized.

Most of all, stop the KPJ dribble show. End the boyz club. Let the bigs play too. This also goes for Jabari and Sengun and Bruno.

I agree with a lot of that, just don't have any faith Garuba is the guy for it, even as a screener

If Usman was 6’10-6’11 and could still move like he does now, he’d be a huge problem

streets saying Segun is pretty good on defense this year. All the best Defensive lineups are with AL-P in them.

Having to watch Christian Wood's low intensity skinny guy high pick has warped these nutters into thinking that any fringe guy who sticks his butt out is Wes Unseld

you know me, I'm a destiny garuba fan boy. I want the best for destiny. I know this guy can be an impact player if we had a better coach.

Now if you could take Woods height, skills, movement quality with Garubas hustle you'd have a multiple time all star

If nothing else he's a guy you can throw out there 15 min/gm to set screens, play tough D, scrap and put the pressure on the opposing team.

If he gets a consistent corner 3 he's a valuable rotation player.

Which side of Destiny are you on?

If he can be a screener and a hub for Spain, I think he can be a developmental, 15-minute backup C here in Houston.

Literally, anything is better than KPJ dribbling.

Yeah he def can do all of those. But if he doesn't develop some kind of basketball skill then it won't matter on a winning team because there's other cheap options who can contribute in other ways while hustling. I'm trying to think of analogies for Garuba who has contributed to winning teams. The closest I can think of is Bobby Portis, but even he has some skills

Most late first rounders are a miss anyway. Also, the Rockets just don't want to develop too many players, so they signed those cheap ass contracts like Gary, Nix and Bruno. Other than Bruno, Gary and Nix are pretty much useless, all they did was taking away all the minutes of other players like JC and TyTy. If we do not have enough to get in the playoff this year, why don't just give those minutes to your draft pick and see what they can do?

Garuba has one thing on defense that you can't really teach--fantastic instincts. Combine that with a good wingspan and pretty quick feet and you get someone who can be a game changer.

I just wish his offense wasn't so bizarrely stiff. Everything he does on that end seems awkward, shooting, dunking, free-throws...now granted he scrapped for some points and even scored a 3 against the Bucks, but it just looks so mechanical and like he's over-thinking everything as opposed to the defensive end where he reacts naturally.

But I've really enjoyed seeing him play meaningful minutes and making a meaningful-ish contribution

Silas in the post-game after the Jazz game said Usman is earning more minutes by the day. I guess that's good.
