You'd have to re-build the G-League from scratch so they're not just development teams for NBA teams in the same local area.
It's a great idea in theory especially with it becoming more and more of a global game expanding the talent pool. It only works if you use larger cities-Seattle, Kansas City, Buffalo, Las Vegas, etc to balance out half of the G-League being smaller cities and all those teams need to be in the NBA Draft with their own separate owners and staff/system and salary cap. Could form exciting local rivalries. Could completely see small NBA teams like Sacramento or Milwaukee get demoted and large teams like Seattle or Kansas City getting promoted being a big boost for the NBA. Doesn't make sense if a team like the Lakers gets demoted and a team like Albuquerque gets promoted. You'd have to lock in legacy NBA teams i think, and punish them another way. I think half the league would have to be locked and safe but punished by having no draft pick in the first round even if a bottom record.
-Also stats get confusing and pointless just like ABA/NBA merger. Do people really care that DR. J averaged 29/12/5 with 2 and half steals and 2 blocks his first 5 seasons or do most just go "meh..it was the ABA though." You'd tarnish a ton of legacies with "it doesn't count" stats.

-Also does a Euro player have any desire to come play in Montana when he can make just as much or more money playing and living in Italy or Barcelona or Paris etc?

-If you have two different salary cap systems and promoted team gets NBA salary cap boost and makes big signings(but soon after is demoted back to lower g-league salary), or a demoted NBA team with an NBA salary cap has to reduce salary to GLeague cap. How does that work? Non guaranteed contract where it can be waived without punishment so the player becomes a free agent again? Gives players incentive for team jumping, but lack of long term security would cause avoidance?

Small 1 team cities do bring a crazed University like fanbase energy that's pretty cool, though.

Oh and to answer the question. I would. Born and raised here. 4 decades a fan. No question. Of course it's easy to remain a fan for a large city based team, but a small city GLeague team that spends its entire existence never sniffing NBA promotion? Why wouldn't those fans just root for the next largest NBA city that represents their state or local area? Especially if a system was placed where legacy teams can't get demoted?

I don’t like the idea of legacy teams. You would think any big market team in relegation wouldn’t be there for very long. The best teams in EPL never get relegated.

God relegation would be amazing! I’m so totally down for that idea. And yes, I’d still support them for sure.

KPJ might actually be in the top 80% of PGs in the league if the Rockets were relegated to the G League.

He didn’t actually endorse this idea. He said they’ve discussed it but recognize it’s incompatible with the brand. G League isn’t built to compete against NBA teams.

The problem is, would the players accept this idea?

And then let's say a team gets relegated to the G-League where they compete for, I guess, the G-League championship. What marquee free agent would willingly sign with a team that wasn't going to be competing for an NBA title, that season?

You might alienate the fan base, but worse, you might unwittingly turn away players that had some interest in playing for your team, but now don't.

How would it work ? You need to change whole structure of gleague and nba . If it would be like soccer leagues in europe ,who would get first 2 pick ?promoted gleague teams or 3 from last five of nba and 2 teams from gleague draw for their respectful lottery seeds.

How would it work with division and conference system? You need to get nba an whole league without divisions and conferences. Need to even vs. game counts also.

    Let's say relegation was possible.

How would the draft work then?

Non-starter. Silly of Silver to even verbally acknowledge it.
