Coach (even though he seems super likeable, his rotations and him playing favourites are both very suspect) and starting point guard.
Age/experience is without question the most necessary thing needed. Gonna be another bumpy year, we will get there eventually.
I think this team has more talent than the 2012 Rockets, individually. However, that team won 45 games. This team can't win 1 game. Geesh. upgrades Maturing and playing something other than roll out the basketball.
I thought we were supposed to be a better defensive team. We aren't doing much that impacts the game (deflections, contesting shooters, extra effort). That's coaching.
Issues to be fixed 1. Instantly give all our guys 2 years of NBA games 2. Discuss what we need from there
Start of season schedule was/is brutal. Hawks: two elite facilitators in Trae and Murray who are more advanced than our pair as G-P (Green-Porter) combined for 37 pts to Trae/Murray 43 pts. Jabari had opening game jitters going 3 of 11 from 3 Rockets were 9 of 35 from 3...25.7% (3P%) ________ Grizz: Green scored 33 points but Ja Morant is All World and scored 49 points. Unfortunately the Grizz shot 45.2% (3P%).....Bruno got hurt. _________ Bucks: I anticipated Giannis going off for about 37 points but I hoped the rest of the Bucks could be contained. Well Giannis went for 44 points and the Bucks shot 16 of 31 from 3.....51.6 (3P%). Giannis 44 points while G-P combined for 40 points. Interesting tidbit: Rockets had 15 Turnovers in game one vs the Hawks and that was reported as too much..... well the Bucks had 16 turnovers vs us (Rockets) Bucks also shot 61.9% from the FT line vs us. ___________ *Houston is 15th / 16th in turnovers on the season *Houston is 6th in rebounds *Houston is 13th in 3PA's *Houston is 12th in 3P% ___________________________________________________________ [ Summary ] Coaching? Defensively Rockets throw Drop Coverage to help Bruno, Sengun, and Garuba stay on the court. Leaves us vulnerable to the drive then step backs of Trae, Murray, Ja Morant types. KPj is right where I anticipated him to be....even better. I predicted his numbers as:..............20 pts...7.8 Asts...5.5 rebs...71 FT% by seasons end. Currently:...19 pts...6.0 Asts...5.7 rebs...72.7 FT% Main problem is experience. That comes with logging in game time minutes.
We need better passing on O and more toughness/size on D. A lot of other things will improve with experience, but the coaching hasn't been optimal either. - Give me a legit ball-mover with size who can defend at the PG, like a Lonzo Ball type (currently looking at Anthony Black in the '23 draft, 6'7" PG). Move KPJ to the bench as a 6th man. - Keep Fernando as the starting-C for now. He doesn't look to be a long-term answer there, but he fits what we need from the C spot more than Sengun. Jabari needs a paint protector/finisher next to him, and the young Gs need a P/R lob threat. Sengun can be shopped while he has value, and can run the bench unit til then. - Play Eason more. He makes things happen on both ends, and is one of the only guys with a backbone on D. I think we should stop spoon-feeding Jabari 15-20 fga until he earns it, while giving Eason more opportunities/PT.
1. Better coaching. 2. More years in the league. 3. People who support a player rather than the team being banned from CF Those are all the obvious ones I think.
Wembanyama is the obvious answer, if we get the #1 pick not one rockets fan is picking a PG over Victor Wembanyama.
The 2 foundational pieces of the team are 19 and 20, and not have not played 82 games between them. Everything is on track
