On MTP Chuck Todd just showed a poll that said they 81% of Democrats believe that Republicans are out to destroy America while 79% of Republicans believe Democrats are out to destroy America.
I don't think the two main groups even agree on what "America" should mean anymore, sadly. Very little overlap. Maybe baseball and apple pie? But baseball probably too gender-strict and pie too sugary for some of my local Cali friends.
The paid black actors at Trump rallies are a joke. Can you imagine stopping that low for a few bucks? Only 4% of people in Corpus are black. Somehow he found some to shove on the front row. Craiglist temp jobs advertised maybe.
Baseball viewership numbers are declining, it’s getting dominated by LatinX immigrants, MLB is too woke. They pulled the All Star game from Atlanta because of GA voting law. Most critical the DH is now part of both leagues! Back in my day managers had to make tough decisions about when to pull their pitchers for more offense! Apple pie in addition to being loaded with sugar, fat and carbs the crust also contains gluten. Apples cultivation is a monoculture that wipes out biodiversity. Apple pie is a creation of European culture and reinforces Eurocentric diet and culture.
I don't think CBS was expecting this response from what is traditionally a core Dem voting block, but if there is a red wave, this encapsulates why.
I think they are talking past each other. Neither group is out to make it so there is no such country as the United States of America, but both are in favor of goals that might make the other say, "This isn't the America I know/love/remember."
It's like the peaceful dissolution of Czechoslovakia. Both sides thought the other side was awful with their wishes for governance yet the shared solution was to break up even though neither party's populace fully supported it.
While the continental US is engaged in virtual bloodsport ahead of the midterm election, Alaska is having some sort of non-partisan embrace of Mary Peltola. Both Murkowski and Palin are voting for Peltola over Nick Begich. At this rate, Peltola is going to stick around in Congress for a few decades. Also helps that rank choice voting greatly benefits her (as it does Murkowski as well).
https://www.rollingstone.com/politi...hallenge-oz-fetterman-philadelphia-1234616197/ Trump Plans to Challenge the 2022 Elections — Starting in Philly The former president is fixated on challenging the results of Pennsylvania’s Senate race, which he views — as one source puts it — as a “dress rehearsal for Trump 2024” In recent months, Trump has convened a series of in-person meetings and conference calls to discuss laying the groundwork to challenge the 2022 midterm election results, four people familiar with the conversations tell Rolling Stone. In these conversations, pro-Trump groups, attorneys, Republican Party activists, and MAGA diehards often discuss the type of scorched-earth legal tactics they could deploy. The MAGA power at all costs movement is such a threat to democracy. Lock him up!
Ranked-choice voting really seems like it kicks ass which means we will never, ever, get it in Texas.
Yes there is definately a lot of that. At the same time many think its worse than things might actually be. We saw several bipartisan bills passed by this current Congress and the Democrats did support Trump's criminal justice reform and also the first CARES Act. There are still areas of common ground but the rhetoric is very hot.
And the voter intimidation attempts have begun. 2022 Election: Alleged incidents of voter intimidation in Arizona reported; https://www.fox10phoenix.com/news/2...ion-in-arizona-reported-to-justice-department
This morning new polling came out with the Mn Governors race tied. This looked like a pretty safe race for the Democrats just recently. My own feeling is they this poll is an outlier but it does fit with a pattern of races overall tightening and momentum on the Republican side
approval voting (where you can vote for as many candidates as you want, without ranking them) would be an interesting system.
Maricopa is ground zero for election problems, namely because they are the largest (or one of) county in the country as a percent of the electorate. They take a week to count their votes, utterly ridiculous. Dems do not like any monitoring of drop boxes, so of course they are going to call in the feds. I doubt they will be able to stop it though. One downside for the Dems of having the drop boxes out in the open is you can't stop someone from filming in a public place.
