I was referring to the question on the broadcast. The turning point of their season was when they got shown who was the best in the AL before the all-star break.
Right. They were the best in 2009. They've been not the best for the other past 20 years. Yankee Legacy and all.
The problem with paying superstar is that they rarely remain superstars for long after you pay them. They want and are getting paid to not regress to the mean or get injured. A few work out, but it's like expecting a batter to hit 400. It's possible, but unreasonable to expect it.
As much as I would like the Astros to take the credit for the Yankees descent when we played them after the AS break, they actually went 3-5 going into the break. We helped them go 2-5 their first seven after the break, before they went on a 4-1 mini-tear. After that, August hit and they went 3-14 and truly hit the skids.
Your memory is fine in this case. Their 3 game series against the Yankees was right after the all star game. They had a 4 game series in NYC (2-2), about a month before the all star game. At the all star break the Yankees were still 4.5 games up on the Astros
When the Astros split the 4 game series in NY before the all star break, wasn't that the first home series they didn't win? That 4 game series is more of the demarcation of when things started to change for the Yankees.
They went 6-1 immediately after our split with them. They also lost or split two home series prior to their series with the Astros.
Game 3 was a huge win because, home teams are supposed to win at home. Plus Cole is their certified ace.! Astros went with Javier who was very talented, and is growing into the top of the order guy; but isn’t a top 3 guy yet.
I would say game 2 the HBU was really bad for both. Game 3 we got a few calls but it was much more slanted.
Yes, because the center fielder typically commands the outfield and he clearly calls for the ball and Judge (to his credit) admitted he didn't act quickly enough and should have peeled away instead getting right in his line of sight (he's 6'7", that certainly didn't help the situation). Based on distance that needed to be covered to get to the ball, it was slightly in favor of Judge, but not decidedly.
LMJ sent us to the WS in 2017 with 24 straight breaking balls to end the Yankees... May history repeat
I'm assuming he said this after game 2. And of course in using "we" he was speaking from the Yankees perspective and not actually including himself.
