His shooting will come around. What he needs to be doing is eating. A lot! Big time calorie and protein intake while living in the weight room. He will make his biggest strides, especially rebounding and defending in the paint, once his body begins to fill out. Will take some time. No time like the present to get started.
Silas must be having a bromance with him. I get he has tools, but you won't fit a square into a round hole. He isn't James Harden, and they seem to think they can replicate Harden
Btw I got attacked a lot before the season for saying Jabari is incredibly raw and doesn't give you a lot when his shot isn't falling (based on all the ncaa games I saw, not just highlight clips) and it really shows. When his shot isn't falling and he loses confidence, there are so many situations where he gets the ball at the 3pt line and passes it again or drives and dishes to a guarded teammate, because he simply doesn't have anything beyond 3pt shooting and face-up jumpers. He also can't really create separation besides a basic drive. Defense is another thing, historically rookies tend to be pretty bad at defense and need to adjust to the level of play and athleticism, no one should have expected Jabari to give us all-star level defense just because of his ncaa tenure. He really needs to keep up on switches/ screens and learn to box out. Also leaves his assignment often because he overcommits to help defense. This will all take a lot of time and people need to dampen their expectations for this season and our rebuild timeline.
Jabari honestly played like **** last night, but he will come around. I’m a little disappointed he’s not better than he is right now, but the tools are all there, he just needs to put it together. There’s really no sugarcoating the rebounding. That was just a seriously pathetic display from a 6’10” big man.
Yep Banchero is the most polished rookie in a long time. He will be a perennial all star/MVP candidate very soon. Smith is much more raw but he’s a hard worker and we just need to be patient. I fully expect him to shoot like 30% from 3 this season.
I'm starting to buy into some people just can't shoot on our court. Too much red blending with the orange rim. Red sidelines, red state farm padding right behind the rim/backboard view, red goal post padding everywhere, urban audience in bloods color. We need black out of bounds with red lettering, black goal post. I wanna see it painted Painted black Black as night Black as coal I wanna see the rim stand out from crowd
Hot take incoming… there is legit reason to be concerned. can’t shoot on our court lol. Why couldn’t he shoot in the summer league then? why could he shoot in college? There’s plenty of guys, especially bigs, that shot good/great in college and struggled in the nba. JJJ is the exact archetype. You’re not so much taller or bigger anymore. And btw the 3 pt line is further out. I’m not off the bandwagon or anything. Part of it is still me pissed about the Alpi thing. They seem to MOSTLY focus on his (Alpis) weaknesses and ignore his strengths. He can’t do this, he’s not perfect at this, he needs the ball in his hands… HAVE to BENCH HIM!! it’s strange. to me JG-Alpi combo should be fine to over and over and over. That’s a combo that can be deadly. But regarding Bari… I get it. He’s young. It’s early. He’s clearly processing the game too slowly so when the game speeds up for him as it eventually did for JG it SHOULD start coming together. but I need to see SOMETHING good soon. A hint or something. the best thing I can say about him so far is he looks “fluid”. More fluid than I thought he would. So that’s good if he can hit shots and be more naturally good defensively and on the boards.
Imo Keegan Murray is a bit more polished but less spectacle and upside, so he's under the radar for a lot of fans.
Wasn't that court all red too? Maybe we need to go back to the alternate dildo Rockets blue(like Auburn court) the rest of the season. Wait. I want Wemby, so no. Keep it red and profit.
He's going to have his growing pains, but I think we need to temper our expectations for the short-term. On the plus-side, the kid plays hard, and will clearly be a huge asset on the defensive end. His J is pure, and it'll start dropping more consistently as he calms down, gets better looks (and is playing with better passers) and adds some weight to his base to get better balance. But on the downside, I don't think he'll ever have a strong off-the-dribble game. Some guys just don't have the fluidity/coordination to do so. He's plenty fluid on his J and in moving on defense, but with the ball just he's too stiff. I know it's stupidly early to say for a rookie who's only 19, and I hope I'm wrong. I do hope he becomes more comfortable with physicality, so his finishing/rebounding aren't weak spots moving forward. All that means is we need a legit playmaker from the 2023 Draft, and that we should be patient with Jabari's development. I was one of the biggest Banchero supporters here pre-draft, and I don't think it's fair to compare Jabari to him, especially because he went before our pick. If we picked him before Paolo, then that's another story, but at #3, we picked the guy left out of Paolo/Chet/Jabari, and because of that, it's not really relevant for us how the other 2 compare.
Jabari is the next lonzo ball. Both highly touted prospects coming out of college. They’re both good, solid but don’t live up to the hype.
He's only 19. He was never going to come in and dominate. I agree the shooting has sucked of course but it also took Jalen a full year really to become decent at scoring. Now he's a stud. Give it some time.
