In all honesty, his passes last year were a lot more inspired than his passes in that game. He really didn't look great out there at all. He's got skill for days, but he really needs to work on his athleticism and the speed he plays the game at. He looks a half step slower out there, and that aint good.
Ironic is that every poster in this tread can not comprend what they are quoting at and whom they are quoting at even the op . I was dead serious about my quote but in a sarcastic way .you ppl was opening treads ".... experiment is over" this time last year .
Old school trying to keep a dying play type (post ups) alive.... Only thing sadder is the balding middle age man doing a comb over.
So why is Gordon in the starting lineup? He is incredibly redundant to KPJ and Green. I think Sengun should be playing with Jabari and Tari and all this hand wringing about his defense will go away. We already know he is a great passer with great vision, he just had a bad game and his confidence has been shook by this unnecessary demotion to the bench. His 3 pter looks better, although he is still hesitant. Silas’ rotations suck, plain and simple. It proves to me again that they could care less about winning and are going to be “experimenting” again this year. We will be in the lottery again, but will have to be incredibly lucky to crack the top 5. SA, Utah, Orlando, OKC, Detroit, and Indianapolis (after the LA trade) are going to suck so bad nobody will be able to out tank them.
Mixing post-ups into the mix is a good idea. Play-off basketball is largely a half court game and having a reliable low-post threat and creator in crunch time is valuable (not that the playoffs are relative to the Rockets this year). If KPJ hits his lay-ups and we shoot 35% instead of 28% from three, real Rocket fans would be going crazy over his performance. If winning is really important to the Rockets then Gordon would be coming off the bench and Matthews would be getting zero minutes. Writing off Sengun because he is good in the post after one lousy game is really asinine.
Must I post the decline in post up attempts of some of the best in the game yet again of KAT, Embiid, Jokic, Tobias Harris yet again for the millionth time? And how they don't get out of the first and second round. What's asinine is someone thinking I've given up on Sengun. In my post you will see I said Sengun will give us good action off the bench. Fact is: *Sengun is not a good rim protector....not as good as Bruno *Sengun is not a good rebounder....watch Dedmon throwing him around *Sengun is not a vertical spacer....not as good as Bruno *Sengun does not run the floor well....not as good as Bruno Sengun needs to shoot more 3-point attempts to help space the floor. Because if Sengun is not helping space the floor....what good is he? The amazing Sengun passer got out assisted by the terrible passing Bruno who just has to receive passes on the "Short Roll" and kick out to the corners. Nothing fancy....just basketball. I'm not completely against post ups. Many have seen my postings where I said Melo could be useful in about 7 post up possessions if nothing else, to change the angle of attack and show the defense a different look. Melo was something like 98 NBA percentile in about 6 possessions in the post per game before we kicked him to the curb. I wish Sengun had his post up numbers. Rockets scored on like 78% of the time he posted up. Sengun has not been better, but yet those infatuated with Sengun keep pushing that aspect of his game. 76ers and Bucks just played......Sixers made a big comeback after sitting Embiid and letting Harden and Maxey tear it up. Not a coincidence. Get use to the new NBA. Where fast pace downhill racing reigns supreme. I'm old school but I've come to terms with it. You need to as well.
I'm a Sengun fan. That said, if you want him to get torched on the regular, by all means, play him at the 4. He does not have the length to make up for his lack of lateral quickness and speed. He has a hard time with longer, quicker guys in the post. Having him out on the perimeter would expose this even more. I do not get this way of thinking. Maybe I'm wrong. Keep in mind, he's only 20. He's going to get better. Just not there yet.
Fernando is fool’s gold. Reminds me of the Cato fiasco. He is playing pretty good and I wanted him as our backup 5, but before long he will go back to journeyman status and we will have wasted an opportunity to work Sengun with the core and iron out his weaknesses. It’s amazing how GM’s and media were all calling him the steal of last year’s draft and, now, after a couple of poor showings in pre-season and the first game he is now relegated to bench role player. I am not a Sengun only fan, and, if this ploy works for the Rockets, I’ll be thrilled. If you are going to make Sengun the playmaker with the second unit, Gordon and KJM should be coming off the bench with him.
I think we will continue to see wierd rotations, questionable mpg and guys missing time regularly for this or that. All part of the plan.
I respect your opinion and enjoy your commentary more than most everybody on the board, but I think inserting Fernando into the starting line-up is giving up on Sengun as the starting center. Sengun played great with KPJ and Green at the end of last year as the starter. He has improved his 3 pointer and if Silas will ever coach his defense will be fine with Bari and Tari in the lineup. Fernando is hustling and folks are falling in love with him. He is a mediocre rebounder and his defense will be exposed. Sengun is the way better prospect at 20 years old and just needs the experience to be very effective in the modern day NBA.
Man you trippin with this Sengun hate. He’s a kid with a lot of talent.Calm the **** down.Smh.Weak minded fans I swear.
Sengun is a bench player not because of Bruno but due to poor management. Everybody knows that Bruno will be exposed soon, very obvious. The next step will be Jabari starting at 5 and Tate at 4 and Sengun will be 8th or 9th player in the rotation, whether Bruno will get another minute or not is another issue and is not connected to Alpi's situation. If we check the roster and the possibility of getting FRP if any of them traded: Certain (100%)=JGreen, Jabari Highly likely (80%)=Alpi,Tari May be (50%)=KPJ Less likely (25%)=Gordon,Tate Very Unlikely =KMJ No way: Bruno, Boban, Garuba, Josh, TyTy, Nix, Matthews or whoever left. Do you think Alpi was demoted for sporting a journeyman. Bruno is distraction. Alpi's Houston days are numbered (This season plus some time in next)
I don't think anyone is claiming Bruno is future All Star or that he will catch magic like Hassan Whiteside did when he broke thru. It's the debate since 14/15 about the post up being the least efficient shot in the game that tends to result in an 8 to 10 foot contested fade away vs other efficient play types like the basic PnR. Bruno is just buying time until Jabari gains some muscle next year or Sengun gets up to par with becoming a vertical threat or a decent 3-pt shot. It does me no good to run the post up 10 to 12 times a game while only 6 register as true post up plays. While the other possessions Sengun is a grounded form of Dunker Spot. I want a lob threat Dunker Spot like Bruno....for the time being. It's a matter of philosophy.....Sengun and Jokic fans want the post up play to be seen as more relevant than it is......the fools gold is as the Warriors have been proving since 14/15, the post up is garbage. They give you a few one-on-one post ups to fool you into thinking that can be successful.....then pull the rug on you with a wolf pack swarming defense that takes that away and more. The defenses getting smarter and zone defense has rendered the post up as truly insignificant. And in the playoffs you see those teams relying on that crumble and are shown the door sooner rather than later. I've studied it for years.....easy to find articles stating such. Just take a few moments.
