https://www.nba.com/stats/players/advanced?TeamID=1610612745&dir=A&sort=DEF_RATING Just for ***** and grins I wanted to look up the ratings from last night. Alp was the 6th best defender last night, better than Jalen, Jabari and KPJ. Interestingly enough he was better offensively than KPJ and Green as well.
I thought Sengun was terrible last night , thoroughly outplayed by Okungwu on both ends of the court. Come to think about it, how many teams run a post centric offense today. Denver and that's pretty much it, not even Philly with Embiid as they have Harden running the show more often than not. I really don't think the post centric offense can win at a high level right now, the rules heavily favor guards / perimeter play and traditional bigs are all but extinct. Teams don't and can't just dump the ball in the post anymore and let their big man go to work. Defenses being able to play zone with double teams and fronting ..... the game has changed. Bigs have had to adapt and learn a whole new box of trix, its all pick and roll or stretch bigs .... and guards don't even know how to feed the post ....
I wouldn't even count Denver. Jokic is not a center on offense. Sengun needs to evolve his game. Needs to work on his handles and shot. I guess he already knows, his post game won't cut it. He is smart enough to be able to adapt, I believe. And the part about the guards is so true. Centers are pnr, lob objects for guards. I mean, Sengun has passing and the guards don't even anticipate the passes.
Absolutely! I think the rockets staff and front office have thought about that. They moved him to the bench and they’ll move to another team in 1-2 years
man! how can you find such joy in not liking someone. Go find something you like, and cheer about it.
Just speaking the truth. I love the rockets, not one player like y’all. He’s literally the only player most of y’all support
You’re not a rockets fan then. No true rockets fan would want to get rid of one our young super talented high upside players
Man, I thought we weren’t gonna argue today. Hope all is well with you and your family out there in Turkey
It doesn’t matter what everyone else does if you can do what you do extremely well. So I don’t think we should completely disregard a post centric offense (in the future) just bc others don’t do it. The league is trendy. Trends start somewhere. Someone had to be the first small ball team.
Trends start when teams figure out how to take advantage of something .... The rules are stacked against post offense when teams can play zone with pseudo double teams on post players literally 100% of the time. Bigs have a guy in front and behind them literally all the time, before an entry pass has even been considered. That makes traditional post play very difficult to establish. Add to that the fact that you can't breathe on a perimeter player, much less hand check guys anymore. The perimeter player has a distinct advantage before we run a pick and roll. Sengun's skillset is a throwback to the days of traditional post play, He's really got to adapt his game ....
For Houston Rockets fans, the name Hakeem Olajuwon should ring a bell. Best post player in the history of the NBA. And regarding the argument that post play doesn't win championships in the modern NBA - a certain guy called Tim Duncan, who wasn't much taller than Sengun and also a very skilled post player (didn't shoot threes, just like Hakeem) led his team to several championships, the last one just 8 years ago. Nothing wrong with post play. It's on the coach to mix it up and combine the strengths of his players, rather than exclusively catering to one that maybe feels more culturally similar, while demoting the other.
I think there are 3 factions here. One that loves senguin, the other that hates him and I think the rest of us that want him to succeed bc he is a rocket. Kinda fun hearing the first 2 getup go at it lol.
I dunno, man… They are talented but I dunno… strong Cat/Steve vibe. Lots of hype not much winning… I wonder if we can turn that backcourt into another McGrady… A T-Mac-level player with Tari/Jabari/ and the other nice pieces we have (Sengun, Jaygup, Tate, KJ) would be nice. A KPJ/Green centric team, I don’t see it yet…
In order to maximize Sengun, Green and KPJ need their minutes staggered significantly. In fact, whether Sengun is on the roster or not, Green/KPJ's minutes should still be staggered. Sengun is a playmaking big, his effectiveness is maximized if the lineup consists of fewer ball dominant guards, and more spot up shooters/slashers. A Christopher/Green/Martin/Jabari/Sengun lineup would probably be an example lineup that would gel well with Sengun on the roster. Either way, the biggest issue to be addressed is the fact that Green and KPJ are practically glued together. This was the case last season as well, and I have no clue why this needs to be the case.
Quite obvious that since kpj only fans can't acknowledge that their man isn't even really a pg and lacks court vision, gonna slander and sht on the best passer on the team. It's ironic that folks been btching about ball dominant iso ball, selfish harden ball and now same folks are praising an inferior harden. Only way he can pass being pg is to score more to compensate his lackin pg abilities. If you want team ball, you should b cheering for sengun to b properly utilized.
Everyone ist very good but Alperen Sengün is not good enough That is so ridiculous! Yes he is not at the level of a Tier 1 Center at this moment. But this guy is 20 years old! Wtf are you talking about! There are so guys here who wait, that he makes every game a tripple double to be good enough for his age?! He is a world class in his talents but he is a rough diamond who needs time to be a cuted diamond! He is one of the youngest player in this young Roster! I am with you that his defense be at the moment not really strong but he will learn more and more. He must work to dont be in foul trouble and make not so much TO. He must play the save pass and let other do the TO. Its easier to take a bad shoot than make a key pass! So he must try to throw more shoots and dont pass like the other guys who try to be the Scorer king of the team! I believe that Alpi becomes a Tier 1 Player in the NBA in Houston or andy other franchise! He need a coach who believe in him!
