I'm hearing discussion on 790 today totally ignoring the point about the roof. If the Astros want it OPEN, then it should be. If the ASTROS want it CLOSED, it should be closed. THEIR decision. Manfred should not have control over the roof except to require equal treatment. The ASTRO invested in order to have the CHOICE.
Keep em comin', lol I wish they would change the format to 3-4 That way you can't lose home field advantage until game 4, guaranteed. That would make me feel warm and fuzzy inside.
Hensley is hitless, but has a 500 OBP. 1 HBP in 2 PAs. He got that by working the count. That's all I want.
Totally agree. We built this park and have built a team around taking advantage of it's dimensions and the usage of the roof. Our park, our choice. Where's all the woke folk at regarding this? Our park, our choice! I'll get tee shirts printed up here shortly.
1. Never said anything about Diaz. 2. Never said anything about Hensley. 3. Stated a fact we're not getting any production from our DH and suggested trying out Mancini. Be well.
Isn't Dusty the one setting the lineups? If I believed the Astros analytics team was solely responsible for those decisions, I'd agree with you. But I don't believe for a second that analytics are the sole factor here, and I absolutely believe that that some of it just Dusty doing his thing and playing the guys where he wants to play them based on feel and who's playing well. And to Dusty's credit, he's 4-0 in the playoffs, and they're playing well. I'm not criticizing the man for the performance of the team, nor am I suggesting that David Hensley is going to suddenly come in and be Yordan Alvarez 2.0. There's a fine line between complaining for the sake of complaining and offering up a suggestion as a possible critique as a fan because something is going poorly. Unlike many fans, I don't think I know better than Dusty or the Astros analytic department; I'm just offering an observation based on recent performance. Hensley could start today and go 0-4 with 4 Ks. Also, maybe don't get so defensive? It's OK for someone in a fan forum to say "hey, maybe they could do this, and it would improve this aspect of the team's performance?" That's kind of how sports forums generally work. You should know this after nearly 20K posts.
Right, but why does it have to be just two is the point that I'm making. Hensley has gotten some starts at DH this season, and he's actually posted a 1.222 OPS in those 13 at bats (obviously an absurdly small sample size). And overall, his OPS is obviously higher than Diaz and Mancini on the season (again, small sample size). Those are clearly more-established players, and I'm not debating that. But I think there's something to sometimes just playing the hot hand and giving a young player a chance. Again, what do the Astros really have to lose here? I'm not saying there's anything wrong with it. I'm just saying if you have a guy who's played DH for you this season who is having strong at bats and performed well late in the season, why not give him a shot at DH to see how it affects the lineup? This is the kind of mindset I was referring to with my initial post, because I know it won't happen and I understand why it breaks the old-school baseball mentality, but I don't understand why it's not worth trying. And nobody wants to see Mancini or Diaz perform well more than me. I love those guys and would love to see them have some nice postseason moments. If one or both of them come out and suddenly start having amazing bats and are integral to the Astros scoring runs, obviously I'll shut up in a heartbeat and be thrilled that they're playing well. I just want what's best for the team and the offense.
Nook has said over and over again the front office takes control of lineups in the post season and no real analytics team is going to have a manager who just ignores the analytics. This is why it is so tiring hearing people b**** about lineups constantly, and especially in the post season. People are saying way more than maybe it would improve I understand exactly how a sports forum works, maybe you should understand what happens in a sports forum and stop being so thin-skinned. It's hard to have actual discussions if you don't even realize how the playoff lineups are constructed and think it's all on Dusty. The same reason Hensley is not playing is the same reason he was brought up and have has been getting bats in the playoffs when he is not even a highly rated prospect, it's the numbers and how he fits against certain pitchers. I mean at least the other guys have actual track records you just want to 'hope" a fringe guy like Hensley can do something, does that make more sense than a track record?
It's not about any deficiencies that Framber might have...I'm not taking anything away from him. This is all about Lance, and what he brings to the table. At present, he's the best he's ever been. It was that way when he went down last year. LMJ had put it all together...becoming a well rounded pitcher....on yet another level from Framber. And, he's even better in the postseason...plenty of experience...and, success.
why wouldn't it be about Framber? He's absolutely earned the right be the the 2nd starter and who is getting the ball today so its strange to say its not about him. And again he'd be the first starter if it wasn't for his other teammate. That's why i asked because there's apparently some assumption that he shouldn't be starting tonight. I don't see the problem of LMj on the road again so he can shut the crowd up. In fact I prefer it
Give me LMJ in yankees stadium in game 3. He will shut down he crowd and the Yankees lineup. He will take us to a 3-0 series lead. I don't trust Valdez to not get rattled in that environment.
Maybe they are working on some mechanical things and it's not clicking yet. I have been surprised as well.
There may not be a good argument for Hensley to be made, but there is plenty of argument against Mancini. He does not belong on this roster at all. In my opinion he is there for Click to try and save face (and his job), nothing more. That is not going to help this team at all.
Dont loop me in to your naive comment. Diaz and Mancini aren’t getting it done in the playoffs. They aren’t getting men over, not getting on base etc. Hensley has put out some of the best AB’s on the team and deserves a look at some point. Is it called being logical or b****ing? I want the Astros to win.
Stanek's HR/FB ratio was crazy low this season, and his walk rate over the last half of the season was absurd. He managed to keeps runs from scoring, but I imagine they didn't want to risk luck running out in October so they prioritized the safer arms first.
he's literally had 2 ab's. and he grounded out on 1 and hbp to get on the other. some of yall are really being dramatic about these steller ab's that he's supposedly having where he just suddenly earned a start in the postseason, outside of the sub role hes already in
