I'm not the biggest Sengun fan out there, but I think making a "Sengun Simply Isn't Good Enough" thread and then another thread about Bruno Fernando's outlier game right after is kind of a weird look. Like, obviously Sengun has his shortcomings but he also has loads of potential and things that he can bring to the table...and at age 20 it's not like he's going to stop developing.
People need to realize that Sengun is a 5. Regardless how skilled he is, he would get killed by most 4's. He has a hard time with most 5's that are superior to him in length and athleticism. Running him at the 4 would be a mistake. He needs to continue improving his 3 ball, cut down on the fouls and turnovers. With that, he'll be fine. In the meantime I imagine we're going to see Bruno running with the starters. I41 am ready to see a line up of.. KPJ JG Tari Bari Bruno That would be fun.
Sengun was turnover prone last year as well, but you know what? Some of that is a part of being young and trying to see what works in the NBA. Be patient and let him grow. No doubt some of the passes need to get corrected, but Sengun has great vision and overtime he will likely tighten up which risks are worth it and which aren't.
The assist total for Fernando was a pleasant surprise, but your praise for Bruno seems a poorly disguised attempt to conjure up drama regarding Sengun.
This forum is getting crazier and craizer. I haven't seen so many threads creating in one day to bash a 2nd year 20-year-old player. I have been following the Rockets for over 20 years even I joined the Clutchfans recently, but I usually read the post without registering in the past. I never see so much negative energy against a player like this, and people forget he's not the top 3 pick. Credit given credit is due, Bruno played a good game. However, Sengun posted 15 pts, 9 rbs, 6 tos, 3 pfs wasn't the end of the world. I have stated it in another thread, that the guards play is our Achilles. We will be mediocre at best if we don't find a way to get the guards play teams ball. All other teams will pack the paint against us because they know we'll only screen for 20 seconds and drive or shoot 3s, they wait until our guards cool off and blow us out. Then we are reverting back to last year, that we need our star players to shoot over 30 each efficiently to give us a chance to compete. For the team sake, I wish they trade Sengun and Gordon together this year, then fans may be able to see where the problem is. Otherwise, this team will not be a contender in the next ten years, if we continue to ignore the core problem.
Reminds me of when we signed PJ Tucker and the poster wanted Michael Beasley, Nick Young and Dewayne Dedmon instead, and was adamant about how much Tucker sucked at basketball. Bruno played awesome. Bizarre to go after the 20-year-old who we really want to see make mistakes right now. That’s part of the reason people want him to play and learn. Bruno is not a contending C and he does not teach our guards good habits, unless you want KPJ to be a turdy Steve Francis, dribble/dribble/dribble. Bruno’s passing ability makes me wonder why we aren’t in full Adelman Princeton right now… We have 2 bigs that can do it, and 2 guards that should not be dribbling like James Harden. Even James Harden should probably not be dribbling like James Harden. Teach these guys to move off the ball.
Sengun has range and can stretch the defense. His 3 pt shot needs improvement but he can make mid-range shots. Having a lineup with 3 players taller than 6' 10" would be great for defense. I think because Sengun struggles when it comes to defending in the paint, it's best to put him at the 4 spot and let Bruno handle the dirty work. Stone still needs to find that 7' center that would eventually replace Bruno in the starting lineup.
Sengun is a “Tweener” and is extremely talented for who he is. Bruno is better, but there is a definite place o. this squad for Sengun. They played the perfect rotation last night.
Sengun played like an idiot. Stupid bounce passes at close range or thru the legs need to be a simple handoff. Just stupid between him and KPJ.
I agree. Silas should go watch some Many/Pop footage from Manus first and second season and also get advice from Pop. Manu was always trying to do fancy **** as well and Pop would lose his ****. He still did fancy **** throughout his career and at some point Pop let it be as well, but at the same time he tried to channel that creativity by yanking his ass out of the game by doing stupid **** and then chewing his ass off as Manu proceeded to go to the bench.
I’ll take 9 rebounds 7 assists and two blocks in 25 min. I didn’t think his defense was all that but it wasn’t awful. I say let the experiment play out because we have nothing to lose. But I saw some good flashes with Sengun/Jabari combo.
If he could guard 4's, I would agree. However, and the point I was making, he's not able to. Not by lack of effort. You're only as quick as you can be.
Ironic, Sengun only fans wanted Porter to come off the bench....now it's Sengun coming off the bench. Credit Karma
Right now, that's where Sengun fits best. He can feast on the other team's bench and he can have the ball in his hands every time down the court since the bench unit doesn't have any competent ball handlers. I don't see why anyone would be upset with the arrangement.
Not sure he can win MVP, most improved player, DPOY coming off the bench.....but anything is possible.
I don't get the love fest with KPJ. He's a solid player but to run an isolation offense through him for the whole game makes no sense. We had the greatest isolation player in nba history in Harden and couldn't win. Why try the same strategy with an inferior player. Porter settles too much and doesn't draw any fouls. His court vision isn't great as he missed open shooters all game long. Him and green dominated the ball soo much that Jabari didn't even shoot until they went to the bench. The two of them had the worst plus minus on the team for the game but people thought they played decent. It's crazy. We need to move the ball more. We have good to elite shooters that need to run off screens and get open easy looks. But soo much standing around on offense makes us easy to guard. Until Porter stops his dribble fest I'd rather see a lineup below. So maybe we can just play more as a team. I don't get why we have 3 high draft picks but we decide to build the team around KPJ... Gordon Green Tari Bari Sengun.
I'll help you out then. He's arguably the best overall player on the team right now....that's why Rockets fans tend to like him. Going forward, the Rockets are building around Green and KPJ and those two will be the primary ball handlers so anyone who can't play off-ball, won't really fit in the starting unit.....that's why Sengun doesn't fit. He's a guy that needs the ball in his hands at all times, every time the team has the ball. He can do that off the bench, but he can't do that with the starters. Just look at game 1, he had 6 turnovers to 0 assists.....and yet here you are whining about KPJ who was the team's lead scorer, plus he had 7 assists (should have been 10+ without missed dunks and many, many missed wide open 3's he created) It's very much reminiscent of the Lin fans who were upset about Harden leading the offense....sorry you personally may be a Sengun superfan, but as of right now, he's a role player. You don't prioritize role players over guys like Green and KPJ.
